When I first glanced at this, I thought it was a collection of books, rather than video. Kinda cool, though. Reminds me of those PBS shows I watched when I was a kid, where they would draw or animate the story. Be sure to check out the video clip on Amazon's page.

And hey— 50˘ a story is really farken awesome! Thanks for posting, Butcherboy!

That's kinda what I thought at first too. But, I bet parents could easily turn it into an activity with their younger kids that would encourage learning, especially if they happen to have some of those books on hand (maybe from the library?). Parents and kids reading along with some of the videos, maybe making a game out of it somehow. At the least, I'd say it could be a nice supplement to reading exercises somehow.

This collection gets cut to this price every once in a while on Amazon, and while I almost jumped at it the last time, I reconsidered given the concept.

So now, instead of READING favorite stories with my kids...we can just plop down and watch them? I think I will just leave these greats in their original format to be enjoyed as they were published. In a world where so much entertainment is digital/electronic, it's nice to leave SOME things for meat space. Probably good for the soul in some way.

Looks like these were well done though...I checked out some of the clips on Amazon, and 4 yr old immediately loved it.

We own this and I love this collection. First of all, my kids eat it up, they are 7 and have read all of these books with me or by themselves. My children don't like to watch Disney Movies over and over (they say "they get it", so no need), but they request these movies over and over.

Also, I loan these to their classrooms for rainy days. These are all educational with good lessons. The fact that they are exactly like the books makes my kids instantly recognize the books at the library and request them too. They love "Streganona" and "Why Mosquitos Buzz in People's Ears". The way the DVD's are organized (just a few stories are on each disk, they aren't in alphabetical order) can be frustrating for a parent trying to get in little Johnnie's story, but it also forces the child to do a bit of a "search" with the parent and empowers them to feel a little like they've found Where's Waldo.

This is a good price too, Costco had them for $59 + tax. I paid this price before and I am very happy with all of the movies!

I might be wrong... but I think last year there was a deal which included both books and DVDs wich is a much better package IHMO. I would like to have the books as well DVDs.

At least one reading program asserts that it is beneficial to hear stories narrated to learn inflection, pronunciation, etc. These would be good for that since not every parent has the talent or interest to "act" out the content. Good on you if you do.

Last year an offer was this set plus a 20 extra story set for $45, also Amazon.

EDIT: Oh, and as I suggested last time - grab the audio or put in a player where you can turn off the screen, and you have AUDIOBOOKS! How much would the equivalent audiobook collection cost?
