I was under the impression that the Regors are not able to unlock the other two cores, and that only the black edition 5000+ come with unlocked modifiers for overclocking. I thought that the Regor was a native dual core processor (nothing else to unlock) as opposed to the Callistos which are quad cores with two cores locked. Anyone else have any info or insight?
Sorry about that, you are correct that this is not a Regor, but I still cannot find anything about unlocking the other cores. Any links or info would be great.
It's not a bad deal, but Newegg has several combos with this board. The only cpus that can have the potential for being unlocked are the tri core phenom II, or the 550 series, which has 2 disabled cores.

Can you not read? This is not the same 5000 from 2 years ago.
Ill be sure not to waste my time here from now on.

It is true to unlock 45nM AMD 5000+ 2.2G, get a quad-core Phenom FX5000. Last day I received this combo, open 4 cores and 6M L3. I still need test the stability of CPU, depending on CPU and Motherboard. It is a very good overclock MB except no DDR3 and SidePort Memory. Note: This CPU only for DDR2 support,This GIGA MB requires ACC set AUTO,Special Core mode set to Hybrid in BIOS.

I bought the same proc and mobo. No go on the unlock. latest BIOS and everything. Will not boot, so YMMV on the unlock. In fact the Sempron will clock and perform better after unlocking it.

OP can you either post instructions on unlocking this to quad core or post a link to verify that it will unlock with this mobo. It is confirmed that this processor unlocks to quadcore but its not definitive that it will with this mobo
could you post some pic? any tricky steps to unlock it? Thinking of buying one. Thanks.

I bought the sempron/gigabyte 785G combo for 96.XX, it does not unlock, stable anyway. It will post as dual core but windows will crash and computer restarts every time. OTOH it clocks to 3.7 Ghz easily, of course even there HULU kicks it's arse ... can't wait for Flash 10.1
robertk2012 said: This is the same motherboard that people are using to unlcok the Semprons. Sempron Combo I got this combo last week and was able to unlock the Sempron to Athlon II X2 4400e, Prime95 for 8+ hours w/o problems. Haven't upgraded the BIOS just in case Gigabyte decides to deisable the unlocking features.
But IF you can't unlock it (if it's like the Sempron where some can, some can't), even though dual core, you're stuck with only a native 2.2ghz CPU, only 512MB L2 cache, and no L3 cache, vs. might the Sempron at 2.7ghz (which someone just above said they overclocked to 3.7ghz) be a better deal? Or maybe one of the other combo deals I mentioned in that thread yesterday. Seems like kind of a bigger gamble than the Sempron deal (which is a gamble itself). I guess the question is what percent of the 5000+ don't unlock?

According to the info I gather from google, it's a Deneb core processor that can be unlocked and many people have done it. Choosing a right motherboard is critical for the unlocking, both MSI 785GTM and this board can do that.
The downside is that the overclocking of this cpu rather limited, 2.5G seems to be the average level. And it only support DDR2 ram.
All data above is gather from google.
BTW, I've bought the cpu few days ago and I am now choosing the MB. I should have seen this combo. The later you buy, the less odds to unlock.

Not everything thats a "deal" to one person is considered a "deal" to someone else. If a few negative comments are enough to scare you off, then you're right, you shouldn't waste your time here.
Of course, I'd prefer if you'd get a slightly thicker skin and stick around. Thanks for the post, op.

I didnt give red to op, but its funny, cuz I dont even see red on the original post. Its a bunch of green to me.
Unlocking these is a real crapshoot. Some will go, but a lot wont. I think you're way better off overclocking with the existing cores than unlocking, because you almost certainly arent going to get both the unlock and an overclock to work.
A lot of the mobo manufacturers are also being pressed by AMD to close off the loophole that lets you do the unlock. So make sure the mobo you're getting has the right firmware level before you buy.
"I went to my local microcenter - they have the sargas 2.7 that can be unlocked for $30. the gigabyte motherboard required costs about $100.
buying a regular dual core athlon runs about $20 more. But this gigabyte motherboard without ACC is half price.
So I pay $50 more for a motherboard or I spend $20 more for a dual proc that is stable and does not need unlocking.
I picked the lesser cost MB & more expensive CPU ... and saved enough for 4 GB of ram.
right ?"
You can get that same processor and this gigabyte motherboard with acc for less than $100 shipped.

Would you please provide link info - I was at Frys saturday and I think those numbers don't back you up.
Checking their web site seems not this way as well.
Well, I pulled the trigger. Will post post my success or failure, if interested.

I've found some more info on using this board with CrossfireX. Apparently, it's just "Hyrbrid CrossfireX", and with our 785G chipset the options are limited. According to this Anandtech article, only the older 3450 or 3470 video cards can be paired in CrossfireX mode. Anandtech 785G with 3450/3470
