I own three of these. Overall I'm happy with them. Unfortunately, the windows mobile monitoring app doesn't work correctly with my Fuze. Tech support thinks the app isn't compatible with the vga resolution on the phone.

48 cameras ? I feel sorry for any thief trying to break into your house...
I have 2 of these. Happy with them as well. Quality is good - not great, but then if you want great, I think that you are looking @ cameras that run @$300 for each camera. I added a 2nd 1TB drive to mine and it took @ 10 minutes to do. Also, customer support is helpful.
For 16 cameras, 16 x 60' cords, and the 500 gig DVR - it's a great deal. Two years ago, nearly the same system, but with 8 cameras was $999.
To those who have bought this system - are you installing it yourselves? I hear that the Installation referral card in the box mentions an average of $100 per camera.

These things are a snap to install.
Example:
1. Setup DVR box (easy).
2. Take one end of the cable, plug yellow connector into DVR, plug red connector into the black power connecter.
3. Mount camera somewhere (2 or 3 screws).
4. Run the cable from the DVR to the camera, plug the two connectors on this end of the cable into the connectors on the camera.
The only issue might be if you don't think you can run the cable between the DVR and the camera yourself. 1.

Would you be able to specify what kind of cabling needs to be run between the DVR and each Camera? Also, does each camera need it's own power connection and what is the source?
I am interested because I am building a new house and it would be cool to have this system (although 16 cameras seems to be more than I need). But it seems like a good deal for what you get.

Excellent unit, my business has two (32 cameras) running. Resolution (color) allows for excellent detail (day AND night).
To answer PDP1170's question:
Cable can be purchased in large rolls directly from Q-see or most of their retailers, but generic cable (coax plus power) can be purchased through eBay vendors for MUCH less. Just search "RG59 siamese cable video/power". You would then need to purchase additional male/female connectors as well, which are also readily available.
I have one of these and the cameras are definitely nothing to write home about. I replaced some of them for critical areas with some $29 to $45 cameras off eBay. The quality is much better. The DVR is good.

Can you suggest any good replacement cameras?
I noticed Costco has the 8 camera version available online through 11/29 for $499. Is it easy to add additional cameras to it?
January's coupon shows that it will be available for almost $600.00.

But with only 8 cameras, if I read it right, giving room to upgrade the other 8 to something better?
Again, any suggestions? And how does this system compare to the Schwann systems in the Fry's ads?

Go with the Swann system I had to replace a QSee after one year use. The DVR started making funny noises and the cameras started to go out one after another. Just installed a Swann system, works great and cameras are MUCH better.
I would not be so sure about being able to add cameras to a smaller unit. Looking at the Costco product pages, the DVRs are physically different for 4, 8 and 16 camera systems.

It's not a smaller unit, it's the 16 unit listed with 8 cameras.
