No, this is the 80GB one that played PS2 games by way of a software emulator. It's doesn't have the same value as the much more desired 60GB with the PS2 hardware built in.

where's Dudster? Here should be here soon to TC.

I thought the 60 GB was the only 100% backward compatible system??

The original 20gb and 60gb models had full hardware backwards compatibility, and the first 80gb model (not the re-release) has software backwards compatibility.

and even then, the 20/60gb units weren't 100% compatible. I think it was like 99%, while this one (1st 80gb one) was like 95%.

In either case, from what I recall the incompatible games were sucky ones anyways.

Are you sure thats the same one? There were 2 80gb PS3 systems- one had software Backwards Compatibility (the one here) and one did not.

I am pretty sure the other one ISN'T backwards compatible. Refer to this document:

http://playstation.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/playstation.cfg/php/endu...

I read on some forums that the 98015 is the CECHL01 model. This is one worth the extra money for backwards compatibility. Although another thing to consider is the poor blu ray laser reliability on the earlier models. I know 3 people including myself who had to get their lasers replaced. However, these models are still sought after.

60gb was 100% and 80gb was more around 80%

This site lists the units that are and are not backwards compatible.

The 80gb with 4 usb ports is the old one and should be compatible. Then ones that are newer only have 2 usb ports and are not.
