Dremels are louder and are more likely to scare the crap out of your animal.
These work pretty well, actually, I find it convenient to use for my dogs.

I have two golden retrievers. With the dremel I have had a problem with the long hair getting caught and twisted around it. It is not fun trying to turn it off when your dog is yanking away.
Great price, but I would give it a review of 1 as well. Poorly made and scares the hell out of any pet that isn't comatose. The local Petco said they had almost half of their's come back as returns.

This works better if you take the guard, the plastic that has the hole for the nail, OFF. Then the pet can pull away if frightened. The operator just has to be careful not to file too much nail. Works better than any pet nail clipper!
