Credit goes to Thinkslick over at SD, but it's such a good deal that I wanted to share with my fellow FW'ers:
Home Depot has reduced the price IN STORE on a Ridgid 4 tool compact cordless tool kit from $329 to $199 with a 15% rebate from Ridgid for $169 AR. This appears to be nationwide but not online. Anyway, the kit includes:
-Drill/driver (not the autoshift, unfortunately) -Impact driver w/Philips bit (indispensable!) -One handed reciprocating saw with metal cutting blade -LED worklight -2 Lithium-Ion batteries -Universal Ridgid battery charger (18 and 24 volt batteries) -Soft sided tool bag
These tools are fairly hefty and feel very well built and seem more in line with DeWalt quality rather than Black & Decker or Skil. The worklight actually impressed me. The two previous worklights I've bought in kits have been cheap and somewhat ineffective. This one, while it doesn't feel hefty, has a bright LED, and the head does rotate.
Ridgid also offers a lifetime service guarantee so that if you register your tools with Ridgid, they will replace all parts, including BATTERIES!, for as long as you're the original owner. Pretty sweet.
If you can get a Lowe's coupon for 10% off, you can get these for $153 AR plus tax on $180, which is fantastic IMO considering that Lithium batteries cost about $60+ each. It's almost like buying the drill/driver plus batteries and getting the rest of the kit for free.
Thanks for the heads-up on this, OP. I paid nearly the same last year for the (slightly different model) drill kit alone. Definitely contractor-grade - use mine on the job every day.
Was just reading some of the details of teh Ridgid warranty. The batteries are covered, too. If you wear out the batteries, they replace them. This makes the $199 deal sorely tempting...I've probably spent that much on Ryobi replacement batteries, and mine are starting to run down again.
Oh boy, not sure I can pass up this deal, especially since my favorite drill just took a crap on me. Normally I'm quite against battery-powered powertools, but if this supposed lifetime warranty covers that jazz, then... hmm...
I'll swing by HD tomorrow morning and report back on whether that broken powertool promo can be combined or not.
rbstern said: thegreatfixer said: i think HD is running a Promo where you bring in a used/broken power tool and buy a lithium toolkit that will take off 15%
In the details of 15% offer from HD web site: Offer may not be combined with any other offer, promotion or special incentive program...
The Home Depots I went to had each drill marked that was eligible for the 15% offer, and it does NOT include any kits like this Ridgid one. I didn't pay attention to whether or not you could get 15% off a dual kit like a drill/driver and an impact driver, but I suspect it won't work there either.

Sorry about that -- past my bedtime when I posted.

Yep, that's what did it for me. Had there not been the warranty, I probably would have stayed with my NiCad Porter Cable tools that I bought recently since they were slightly cheaper. However, since the quality is much better (which I realized when comparing side-by-side at home), the Ridgid has LiIon, AND the fantastic warranty, I couldn't resist. Now I have to pack up the Porter Cable tools and return them on Saturday.
I also forgot to mention that the tool bag that comes with the Ridgid is better than I expected. Unlike the Porter Cable bag (which is bigger, one good part) and the bag that came with my Bosch jigsaw, the Ridgid bag could be used as a tool carryall because it has several pockets lining the inside where you could slip different hand tools. While it's smaller than the PC bag, it's plenty large enough for the Ridgid tools and then some extras. Definitely not an afterthought product.
Confirmed w-s, nc. 199. Didn't need but a nice set.

Went to HD in Germantown, MD at lunch just now and picked up a set. They are having a 10% off deal for this set and sets from some other brands in the Germantown HD for "Pro Appreciation Day" or something like that. It's going on from 10 am until 2 pm today, not sure if this is the only location they are doing it at. Anyway, picked up this set for $189 after tax. Great Deal!

Thanks OP. Picked one up this morning in Westlake, Daly City. Lifetime warranty on battery tide me over even though it's $200. They have only one left when I left at 9am.
Thanks for the rebate link... Just got this set for $199 - 15% = $169.15 PLUS TAX. I took in an old drill and got the coupon for 15% off. Orange apron lady showed me the Ridgid set and said that I could use the coupon on top of the sale price. Went to check out and the checker tried to enter the coupon, but the register rejected it. So she just manually gave me 15% off. Now if I can get the rebate of 15% to work - just icing on the cake... This was in Missouri, 63385 rbstern said: Ridgid rebate form
I like the original receipt too, but I've never had a problem with a copied receipt for returns at HD...deallover said: rbstern said: Ridgid rebate form
They want ORIGINAL Receipt for rebate submission. I would like to keep my original receipt. Any ideas?
Anyone have experience with Ridgid warranty? How easy / difficult is it to get something exchanged / repaired?

About the warranty. You must send your info to them within the first 90 days to register for the Lifetime warranty otherwise it is only three years. It will take Ridgid more than five months to get the product registered. As far as using the warranty for the first 90 days or so the HD where you bought it should take care of any problems after that you have to send in any defective product to a depot for repair. I have had to do this, but that is the procedure. FYI Ridgid has had problems with the batteries and chargers that come with these sets. But hey who really cares if it's all under warranty anyway!!

Just picked up one in Wylie, TX. They have 2 more left at this store. Used 10% Lowes coupon. Paid 179.10 + tax. Sweet! Green for OP.
I have an older Ridgid drill and driver that the batteries were shot. Thought I'd see about the "Lifetime Warrany". Took them to a local Ridgid service center, along with a copy of the registration, and a week later I picked up new batteries at no charge. So as long as you register each product you should not have any problems. eluo said: Anyone have experience with Ridgid warranty? How easy / difficult is it to get something exchanged / repaired?
Just saw that rebate...awesome! $153 AR for this kit is incredible. I just used the recip saw last night to cut the top off a small pumpkin. That was enjoyable.
Scored two at the Billings, MT Home Depoo. Used the Lowes 10% off coupon found in the Change of Address packet at the post office. I asked several people at HD about the 15% discount for trading in my old drill, but they told me specifically that the deal only applies if I buy a stand-alone drill and not a kit. Oh well, those here who got that discount are damn lucky. I will try for that 15% off MIR, though. What a deal!

Sort of a rookie, so wondering about the 10% Lowe's coupon. Does HD honor it as some sort of price-matching, or what?

I just returned my Porter Cable to pick one of these up. The tag says "now 299, was 329" but it rang up for 199. I was surprised at how small the packaging was and how light it feels compared to the Porter Cable. The build quality feels just as good if not nicer than the PC due to its soft rubber touches. Although the PC weighs more, it felt more like a toy in your hands vs. the RIDGID's solid feel - maybe it's the type of plastic they used. The bag in RIDGID is way better than the PC.
The trigger on the RIDGID feels very cheap though - as though its about to fall off!

Went to pick one up today. Rep was there setting up a display..... Rep: "Hey, don't forget to register the tools" (for lifetime warranty). Me: Yes, I know about it as I have other Rigid tools. Think you could spare a coupon? Rep: Coupon? They are already dropping their pants at $199.
Strike One
I then go to the customer service desk with an old crappy drill........... Me: I was told I have to turn in my old drill here to get a 15% off coupon. CS: I have to check the list, but most combo's are not on it. Nope, not on the list.
Strike Two
Take the kit to a register, girl rings it up at $199. Tells me the total, then I hand her a Lowes 10%. She inputs it and the total came to like $193.
Base hit up the middle!
Will try for the rebate, but I won't count on it.
I wanted a cordless impact for quite a while and they cost around $150, so getting this whole set up for less than $200 is still a smoking deal.

My clutch setting (the dial numbered 1-20) doesn't work in speed "1" setting. Is this normal?
Bought one today in Longmont, CO. At least two left. Thanks! I've been looking for a deal on an impact driver. Drove a 3" deck screw through a pair of 20 yr. old 2x4's no problema. I'm happy now. This is the ticket for a deck I plan on building.

Just received my 20% Friends and Family Rebate today for $121.68.
$199 minus 10% Lowes = $179.10 minus 20% Rebate = Final Cost. $143.28.
