Very good deal. Not too heavy for it's features at 5.24lbs.

Just be aware that the graphics chip is actually worse than the GMA 4500HD. If you are looking to game, this is not a good laptop for you. The 3 year warranty is making me think about this one though for the wife...

Actually if you look at the 3DMark 06 numbers the 8200 is almost twice as fast as the 4500HD. It's just the older 3DMark results that skew the order.
If you go to Office Depot website and click on the "Weekly Ad" on the right side of the screen, then select by brand, MSI and you should be able to see it. Hope that helps.

If you are looking to game, you probably wouldn't be buying a laptop and certainly not a $450 laptop. I'd much rather take the Nvidia chip over the Intel one anyday.

8200M kicks the living daylight out of 4500#$%# piece of uknowhat. Ranking must not count the 3dbench scores.
Do any of you think this will have an issue with pushing audio/video at 1080p through the HDMI out? Screen size at 32 inches. What about 42 (heck 52 if I end up buying one around Christmas). Would make a nice Media Center PC if it will. Thanks in advance.

1080P is 1080P...doesn't matter what the screen "size" is...it's the resolution that matters. I don't know mcuh about the 8200m-g chipset, but the key factors are hardware acceleration so the CPU isn't doing it software-based, and whether the chipset can output audio over HDMI, which if you have an HDMI connection at all without an adapter, is usually the case. Sometimes you need special drivers though to get it to work.

why is this post categorized under netbook and not Laptop?

Thanks OP. I went and got one now for insurance. I'll adjust on Sunday, unless someone comes up with a real deal killer?? 4Mge RAM is the max but not too bad for a notebook. I don't play games. The display model looked nice in the store. I didn't think to check if the OS was the 64bit version. With 4GB RAM I assumed it was. Never saw a 4GB 32bit combo on a notebook. Screen looked nice, I think it was shiny. 5 lbs is lighter than my 3 year old Toshiba. and .6 bigger screen.

Not sure on display, but based on the posted battery time of 3 hours I'm guessing this is only 6-cell.

It shows $600 if you use the link on this page. Go to the Office Depot page, click on the Weekly Add, select by brand, Click on MSI Brand, and it should show up for $499.99 as one of their special advertise deals>

LCD is the type of panel. LED is the backlit..... I doubt it's LED. low resolution and super cheap price = no led and poor viewing angle.
Even my TX2500 HP tablet has a cheap screen. It's even crappier than my Acer One.

How do u guys think this compares to the HP deal at OD for the HP G71-340US? You get some screen real estate with the HP and you also get LED. Not sure if this MSI is LED or not. But the non dedicated graphics is a downside for the HP. Also what are people searching for on bing for the search term?

How come I don't see this series of computer on MSI's official website? Can't seem to find it anywhere else besides OD.

I didn't realize 13ft laptops were out already jk
This is a pretty good deal even w/o the fancy led or 12 cell. Most likely a 6 cell. Also, I wouldn't expect "gaming" laptop for $450. Good deal.
Wow, what's with the fvcking red? I am giving correct info based on the link. I do not think anyone here has compared these two chips side by side and ran tests. So unless you have done that and posted results, go threadcrap somewhere else. Especially when this deal was posted on SD like a week ago and the chip has been discussed already numerous times.
just an FYI this processor does not have the Intel-vt technology. Which I think is a requirement for winxp mode in win7, someone wanna confirm this? source: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=37255
This is still a pretty good deal, I dont think a lot of people care about running stuff in winxp mode for win7. If one really wanted to, one can swap out the proc for a T6670.
I was just able to install a QBTM300 bluetooth internal "card" in my MSI machine. I bought a kit on eBay (a pulled b/g/n card I was putting in another machine and it came with the BT adapter, for under $20) and the new machine (an Acer Revo) didn't have a BT connection on the motherboard (or at least one that I could find). I researched and found a scant reference to someone on SD who did this, so I knew it was possible.
WARNING: Proceed at your own risk. This may void your warranty and you may break your computer or yourself in the process.
After powering down and removing the battery, you need to take all the screws out of the edge of the bottom of the computer (under the keyboard) as well as the couple of screws holding in the larger plastic plate on the bottom (one will remove, the other will only loosen)...you don't need to remove the plate (which will destroy the warranty sticker) but it is easier to do this mod if you remove it. After all the screws are out, and the notebook is upside down you are looking at the bottom. . You need to GENTLY pry open the plastic of the notebook's bottom case. The connector for the bluetooth is directly to the left of the touchpad when you are typing, or to the right of the pad when it is upside down. I did not need to remove the whole plastic of the case (and I don't know if it can be done) but I was able to open the front edge and sides enough to see the cable for bluetooth already attached to the motherboard. While keeping it open with one hand, I was able to secure the module to the cable and clearly there is a right place to put it to close the case (it can't be moved much due to the cable so if you get inside it would be hard to put it in the wrong place). First reboot and the BT was recognized..the software and antenna are there. The same button that controls the wireless on/off cycles through to allow you to turn BT on/off.
The BT works fine and better (greater distance) than an external USB adapter I had been using for BT.d
