Every time there's a Firefly thread I get a little sad. Easily my favorite show of all time. I'd pay $100 (a lot for me) for a new episode. I know there are plenty of others who feel the same. (You hear that Fox?)
For all the Firefly lovers out there, watch the Halloween episode of Castle, Nathan Fillion's new show, and you'll get a great treat. You can watch it on Hulu now.
It's true, Firefly was the best show on TV (true, that's not saying much, but still). And this deal is so good, it makes me want to buy another copy.

So so worth it. At first blush, this sounds like an idea that is all kinds of bad: a Sci-fi Western? I can remember doing a total pass when this first aired but it is really good stuff. How can you go wrong with a crew consisting of a medical doctor, a mental patient, a man of the cloth and a licensed prostitute? It's a fresh look at a genre that is just chock full of archetypes. I will say that it's not for everyone, but if you find yourself gravitating to sci-fi--you'll enjoy this.

They have episodes 1-10 and 14. Kind of weird they took off episodes 11, 12, and 13.
I wasn't too thrilled with the Firefly movie Serenity (Nathan Fillian isn't exactly a brilliant actor and was a bit too over-the-top a bit too often) but decided to give the series a shot since it was free on Hulu. I'm glad I did - you really get caught up in the individual stories of each of the ship's crew members and it was very well done. I went back and saw Serenity again and liked it a lot more the second time.

No amount of petitioning will get them to bring a great show back, nor pull a crappy show from their lineup.

I'd wager a guess that those three aren't on Hulu because they weren't part of the original air release. As part of Fox's spectacular treatment of the show, they aired them out of order and skipped those three to air the finale rather than "wasting" any more airtime showing the whole 13 episode set they'd already paid for. They were first seen on DVD in the United States--to the best of my knowledge, while SyFy and Canada's network have shown the entire series, the whole thing has never been shown on Fox.

No kidding!
I too would happily shell out $100 just for one single new episode of that show.
They did a nice little callback to Firefly on the Castle Halloween episode last week. I geeked out seeing it, but it also made me so sad that Nathan Fillion is on that show instead of on season five or six of Firefly!

HERE HERE!! Seriously, if you do not own this show then buy these DVD's. It was the best Sci-Fi TV show ever made.

In the sci-fi world it is the accepted view that future frontier worlds will have some small specialized high tech items that can be imported but due to expense the vast majority of everyday items will be made by hand from raw materials. The last frontier era WAS the western era. It is what we know. TV shows need to use parts of established cultures in order to fill in the blanks and give you certain preconceptions, otherwise there would be days of dialog explaining wtf is going on and why. This show was already heavy with dialog. (and I loved every second of it) Add to that some general lawlessness due to travel times (all sublight travel) and you easily have a western theme.

Blame those ridiculous singing/dancing/cooking/dating competition shows that eat up all the prime slots. Fox has been notorious for mishandling the shows with potential, and it's sad that Arrested Development, Undeclared, Drive, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Futurama, and a few other good, watchable shows ate the dust because they were thrown in bad time-slots.

It just kills me - Firefly, Battlestar Galactica... and on a slightly different note Arrested Development... some of the greatest shows of all time yet they were canned because people flocked to REALITY TV! UGH!

Battlestar Galactica was not "canned"; the producers ended the show because they finished the storyline. It also wasn't on FOX.

Shows aren't being killed because people are flocking to reality TV. Networks are killing any show which isn't WILDLY successful in favor of reality TV because the production costs are so much lower (don't have the pay the idiot reality TV participants SAG wages, plus no special effects, etc.). Someone needs to vote Mark Burnham off the island for causing this whole craze.
