Note: the narrow mouth on this bottle (typical of metal water bottles) helps it seal securely, but also makes it harder to wash and insert ice cubes
Stainless-steel water bottles are a popular choice for people worried about the chemicals in plastic water bottles and plastic-lined aluminum water bottles.

Reviews are just complaining about the small mouth on this bottle (hard to wash and add ice cubes). If you just put water in the thing, you don't need to wash it (just rinse with hot water from time to time). I don't use ice cubes.

Be careful of generic made-in-China bottles that are reported to have strange residues inside and a poorly welded bottom that leaks or breaks off. (See threads in this forum about Walgreens water bottles.)
And aluminum is a lot different from steel. Raw aluminum reacts with water so all aluminum water bottles are lined with plastic, which may or may not be real safe (especially generic made-in-China plastic).
REI usually does a good job at testing their products and gives you an unlimited return policy on defective items.

Reviews say don't use dishwasher, and paint/decals come off. I've been looking for a stainless steel bottle, but I'll pass on this. I think I should pretty much give up on trying to find a stainless steel bottle not made in China.
Just rinse it out with hot water. No need for a dishwasher. A dishwasher is probably not going to do a good job of cleaning a narrow-neck bottle anyway. I don't think any painted stainless steel water bottles are dishwasher safe.
I can't say from the website, but I've come across 2 general types of these bottles - one has a thread that's so many turns that its quite difficult to open it - specially when in the gym or driving. Then there's the other kind that has just half a turn or a single full turn.
The carabiner is a negative if you want to use this in a car, as it rattles.
