The text says "Sign up to earn 2% CashBack Bonus on Internet and department, clothing, shoe and jewelry store purchases". That sounds like all internet purchases to me, plus some additional non-internet categories.
your title is misleading. It is CashBack on VERY SPECIFIC purchases, not all Internet purchases. Red until your title is fixed.
The language is a little unclear, but it does seem to say "internet purchases" plus purchases made at department stores, shoe stores, clothing stores and jewelry stores. The "internet purchases" category seems to be wide open. At least that's my reading of their text:
Sign up to earn 2% CashBack Bonus on Internet and department, clothing, shoe and jewelry store purchases...

I got the same thing. Double bonus of nothing is still nothing. What is the normal % back. I thought it is tiered.

Up to $1000 in purchases means that if previously you would receive $10 CashBack, now you can get $20. It does NOT mean you can buy $10,000 worth of stuff and get $200 back - you will get $100 + $10 extra. I've been hit by them before on similar issues. Also notice: Discover does not provide an extra year of warranty, so I would not buy an electronic device (such as a computer or video game console) wit their card.
P.S.
Posting #997 on my route to 1000!

How would Discover know if a purchase is made online?
This is very good for airline tickets too! all airline tix purchased (up to $1000) online should qualify for the double Cash Back.

This seems like an okay promotion. There is lots of competition amongst cc companies for the Christmas dollar. BOA's shopping mall (or whatever it's called) offers bonus points for certain stores, too.
Like one of the other posters said, for electronic purchases make sure you use the card that doubles your warranty. I have never seen a cc promotion that beats that extended warranty asssurance.

The verbiage after signing up makes it sound as if you'll be getting a straight 2% back on purchases in these categories:
Sign up to earn 2% CashBack Bonus on Internet and department, clothing, shoe and jewelry store purchases from 11/15/09 (or the date on which you sign up, whichever is later) through 12/31/09, subject to a cap of $1,000 in purchases. I had the same concern as you, since I only use this Discover account on purchases that qualify for the 5% Get More bonuses. However, it sounds like this offer will give us 2% back, without having to worry about the tiered system!
...earn 1% unlimited CashBack Bonus on all other purchases after your total annual purchases exceed $3,000; other purchases that are part of your first $3,000 earn .25%....
In other words, if your annual purchases have not exceeded $3,000, this offer would just merely increase the CB from 0.25% to 0.50%. You may not even notice the double Cash Back when looking into your statement.
I sent customer service an email to ask what the promotion actually is, since (as has already been mentioned here) the info you get after signing up for it does not match what I was expecting. Might as well get this cleared up before people buy stuff and are disappointed with the results.
I use my Schwab card for 2% back on everything, so this doesn't really buy me much, other than the 10% bonus if I take my CashBack as a gift card.

Me too. I have made a lot of money with Mall Promotion in last 2 years.
Here is the TC from my account. It seems 2% is a bonus reward, no matter what the previous Cash Back level. Not sure if this can be combined with Shop Discover Reward.

I hope it can be combined with ShopDiscover. If so, I may decide to get one of those new 27 inch iMac computers. With 5% off from the Apple Store, and then 2% with this deal, that would total $120 in CashBack on the $1999 iMac. Maybe Apple will knock off $100 in December if holiday sales start off slow.

They are the only one of my cards that does not extend the warranty period. That is worth more to me than a few dollars of CashBack.
I got a response from Discover CS and they confirmed it is 2%.

Slightly unrelated but I'm a bit annoyed you can now only redeem amounts of $50 and up for cash. I have 5% CashBack on gas purchases (for like another month only, another stupid change I'm annoyed about then it goes down to like 1 or 2%) and I use the card just for gas so it takes me a while to rack up the Cash Back and now I can't redeem it for real cash until I hit $50. I think I may cancel my card just not worth it anymore.
