Stolen from SD: (everything)
So just saw this on Kotaku. Looks like WalMart is selling 360 Arcades for $199 with a $100 GC on Saturday.

Not sure whether this is for real or not, image is attached to show "proof." If its true, definitely a great deal. Searched threads to see if this had been posted before and couldn't find it anywhere. If this doesn't belong in Hot Deals, my bad, just tell me and I'll try and get it moved

This has also been confirmed by CheapyD @ CAG FWIW. I think I might pick another one up at this price- my refurb'd one should fetch at least $100... and it works fine!

When would be the best time to go to get a deal like this one?

sweet. Might pick up a 2nd one for the bedroom

the tv deals look good too... and ill be out of the country - awesome.

any clues as to what model that 42" Sharp TV is? That item number is not on the website.
There are only 3 Sharps listed online, and all matching sizes: 42, 46, 52...
So I would a assume its this ONE.
Good Deal?

I'd say it's average 6ms response time is not that great. it's also only 60hz. I'd prefer a TV with a 2ms response time and 120hz

Does WalMart have a price match policy for themselves? In otherwords can I buy today and go back Saturday for the gift card?

The sku for the 360 does not show up on the WalMart.com website, so it must be a special sku like Black Friday merchandise. Since it shows that it is for this coming Saturday the WalMart stores should be getting shipments this week. Can any WalMart employees confirm that this is real?

i assume it's WalMart gift card?

That's in this Saturday, the 7th? Can these be picked up at 11PM, then do some shopping, and then pay for them at midnight?

For $498? Doubt you can get a 120hz anywhere near that price... no?
This would be a bedroom TV... I have a 50" plasma for gaming in the living room. My preferred budget is about $450

Would the $100 GC cover a Hard drive?

Yup... Check it.

yeah does anyone know when these deals actually start at a 24hr WalMart?

How many games (aside from Live Arcade) require a hard drive? Can HD streaming via Live still be done without a hard drive?

I have absolutely no need for one (already have PS3 and Wii), but I find myself having a hard time resisting...

i do not think any games require a hard drive its more like optional for extras like added maps. Not sure about streaming but I do not see how the included 512 mb could not suffice

So quick questions for all the FW & WalMart veterans in here:

1) Is there any reason for me to NOT go to WalMart on my lunch break today and buy 5 of them and then go pricematch (or return/rebuy) them on Saturday?

Thoughts:
2) Will there be a limit per person?
3) Will they adjust on Saturday?
4) Will they mark a certain number with a separate sku to limit the stock?
5) And if this will work, do I need to buy them in 5 separate orders to be safe?
Thanks in advance!

I have a 120hz Toshiba that looks crap (but probably because of the 8ms) response time.

That being said, I wasn't aware that the 360 generates enough FPSs for that to be significant. Compared to my PC I always feel like 360 games are laggy (which is a pity since I love Halo)

No HD at all means you can't save games on regulr 360 games? OR just that you can't download demos and crap like that?

Pair the Arcade with this, and you have a near-Elite for less than $200:

XBox HD and Headset

Uhmmmm...I believe the idea is to NOT use the giftcard on anything xbox to make it a hot deal. Use the giftcard on items you buy regularly at WalMart or something you needed anyways to "truly" get the xbox arcade for $100. As soon as you spend the GC on an xbox hd, you technically made it a $300($200 + $100 GC "wasted") xbox elite.

Unless of course you were in the market for an elite already...

edit: Thanks PhDeez, at least some-one sees the same economic sense behind it
we must work for the same company... lol

I think I missed it. When does the sale begin?

I think it would still technically be a $200 system, since that is all you would pay out of pocket.

I think you mean the "Pro" for less than $200, which can easily be done with Dell recently. Elites normally have 120gb HD, and the new "super" elite (MW2 bundle) is 250gb. I'd rather hit eBay/CL for a hard drive (think 20gb then upgrade to the 60/120/250 later- yes with a hacked file).

Agreed. Use the GC for something you need- not some over-priced Microsoft stuff.

Are these probably the latest chip ?

I am out of date, I started with falcon, but I guess Japser, or valhalla, is what I want.

Proprietary or mass market SD ?

Does anyone know if the arcades have HDMI outputs?

ONLY if you already were in the market for an elite, otherwise you just "wasted" the $100 GC (CASH) that you could have used on other items.

To say it in a different way: The $100 GC is money in my pocket. If I turn around and spend it on Xbox Arcade upgrade, instead of other needed items(food, diapers), I truly spend $300 because I need ANOTHER $100 from my own money to get the NEEDED items still.

Maybe someone else can provide a different view. It makes sense to me but sometimes conveying a point is a lot harder to do.

EDIT: I could be wrong so instead of just giving me red "ComeOnNOw", or anyone else, can you explain your point of view?

just a FYI, with the new Microsoft update a third party memory card will not work. so you need a MS mem card. but you can find a hard drive on criagslist for pretty cheap.

All new Xboxs have HDMI. You have to find a really old one to not have HDMI.

Just look at the date on the box and get a 2009 one and you are good.

Even though there is HDMI, don't you still need the seperate sound cable?

I think you're missing the point. It doesn't matter what you spend the $100 GC on, it's $100 that is not coming directly out of your pocket. Therefore it's not "wasted" (unless your girlfriend takes it and still wants more from you because you got the GC free ).

I am sorry, but your reasoning is completely flawed. The point you are making holds no water. You assume that the XBox items are available for free and dont need to be bought with GC. Why? They have a non-zero material value, so does the food diapers etc.

You are confusing between overpriced non-essential items vs essential items. These are all relative to what the buyer wants/pays. I personally wouldnt buy the hardware. But thats because

- I may not need it
- I can get it cheaper elsewhere, if I need it.

Why don't you ask WalMart? How are we supposed to know?

I believe you only need the sound cable if you are using surround sound. If you are going from the 360 to the TV all that is needed is an HDMI cable. Which BTW doesn't come with the Arcade. Monoprice.com is your best bet if you need one however.

From the google search cache page, I can see this mentioned:
The console comes with a wireless controller and 512MB total memory (256MB of available storage for saving games and storing music, photos, content from Xbox Live, and more)
So I guess, it does have 512mb internal memory, but only half of it usable.

When I was prompted to update while trying to connect to live, I was forced to update, which I did. Now I see that the update kills the current security hole that allows us to run linux on this. I guess I didn't think too much as I was setting it up in the middle of the night.
