A year ago, I got the Compaq laptop they had at the same price. I'm very happy with it, but note that I'm not a gamer. Still, it streams hulu, etc. without any hiccups.
no rain checks. how many panasonic tv's are they likely to stock?

Thanks! Yeah I was wondering about games... I don't play many and wouldn't be playing new games if I was, but I wonder if it could handle older rpg/rts/fps games
checked out the tv today .. colors were ridiculously washed out even after I played with the settings on it. I'm hoping it was a feed issue or a bad set. The picture itself looked relatively sharp and the contrast looked good.

Yeah and I checked out the XBOX today. Yesterday's technology. Terrible smell. Ugly color. And that laptop, it looks like someone burnt a grilled cheese sandwich and stuck an Intel chip into it. I think you all should stay home.

If you're being sarcastic it's not appreciated. I've looked at a hundred TV's over the last few years comparing features/picture etc. before making my own purchase last year. I'm a bit of an A/V addict actually. I was offering the advice that not all Sharp's are created equal, this is not from their Aquos line. Sharp's lower line (often with SB in the name as they are frequently targeted at small businesses) has been noted to have inferior picture quality overall than the Aquos line. This TV was really the only one on the wall at the WalMart I was in that had the washed out color which leads me to believe it probably wasn't a signal issue. So either that set was defective, there's some more advanced color settings that could somehow explain it (ITwas up high so I had a hard time adjusting any menu settings other than the basics), or there's a defect in that model line.
Comparing my comments on a possible issue with the picture on a TV set to your comments on the color or appearance of the plastic cases on laptops and xbox is quite ignorant. I don'treally care how the outside of my xbox looks, I CARE about how the screen of my tv looks.
I was thinking about getting the laptop. However, my current wireless router at home is N and not G. Does anyone know if this is a problem? Thanks for your help!
Watch out for HP laptops. I had 2 of them and both died because of a motherboard defect. Just do your research before purchasing.

N is backward compatible so wireless G will work with your setup.

Come on, he was just joking. The last sentence and that smiley should be pretty obvious. We all know these sales are not going to be perfect. This Sharp is not its top of line, nor is that HP laptop, but still a good deal for what it is.
On the other hand, I really appreciate your input on that Sharp. I haven't had the time to drop by my WalMart to check out for myself, but I understand it's at the bottom of the line-up. It seems business lines tend to not have the best picture presentations, but I was hoping they are more durable than traditional consumer oriented sets. Have you or anyone else here heard about how reliable these sets are?

I've experienced the same. The part on the mobo where the power plugs in dies. I've had 2 go that way.

I'm wondering if there will be lines? I don't want to show up at 7:30PM and I'm 100th in line when they only have 10 in stock.

Same here! They are nice laptops, they just have a poor power plug design. I will not buy another HP because of it.

I haven't seen many posts in threads talking about problems with them so that's a good sign I guess. AVSforum.com usually has threads on popular models. I should mention that I'm not sure SB really means small business, it was just a common assumption in threads on the sets and htey were often sold through warehouse clubs like sams and costco.
Here's some links on other SB series sets to get you started.. be advised these are just for fun, just having SB in the product number doesn't mean they'll all have the same issues:
HP power plugs are built that way... to encourage more wasteful spending of any kind! and increase sales figures!!! they know they BREAK and very quickly...and NOW ADVERTIZE a powerful gaming LAPTOP WITH CELERON!! what will they do next?????????????????
I wouldn't buy a computer with a low-end celeron chip unless cost and light use are your only criteria.

Same problem w/ my HP laptop, which after some research seems to be a very common problem for HP. I did, however, place my laptop in the laptop bag with the power cord still plugged into the laptop all the time, which appearently is very bad for HP. Mine laptop lasted about 2 years, during which time, I throw it into a bag about once or twice a month.

As shown in the ad, it starts at 8am.

I experienced the same with my 2 year-old AMD dv2000 BUT... they replaced both mobo and processor and power supply and RAM (in 2 installments) AFTER warranty because the computer was not turning on... HP's after-warranty support has impressed me.
I would buy it if I needed a laptop, but HP just serviced my previous one...
btw i m thinking of buying the SHARP now and doing a Price Match on 7th.

don't know wat tv u looked at but I went to WalMart and looked at the 46" sharp it look great and for 700 it's a deal
IMHO the Panasonic deal is ok but not great. The U1 is an older model, seems like the new S1 series is better all around. If you work the Bing CB and safeway giftcards you can get the 46S1 for ~$756 + tax, or the 50S1 for ~$796 plus tax. On the other hand if you're happy with the older panel (which is still quite good) and don't want to deal with Cash Back and giftcards, $788 is not bad.
