Cavalry would not make their own HDD's.. I've never cracked one of my drive cases open to see, or needed to.. I am presuming Western Digital, but I could be wrong.

I believe the earlier ones were WDs and the newer models are now Hitachi. But 149 is a really good price for a single drive with eSATA. I am going to get 1.
I had a Cavalry 500G USB external system fail. It didn't seem right that the HDD would fail after 6 months: it should have failed quickly or gone on much longer. So I cracked the shell and found a WD inside which, after I put it inside my rig, has worked perfectly ever since.
OrlandoT said:What is the warranty on the hard drive itself? The warranty on the bare drive is sometimes longer than the warranty listed on the enclosure. It should be the standard 3-years. This is why I love non-HDD manufacturer branded externals - the drives inside have the same warranty as retail/OEM HDDs vs. the piddly 1-year warranty for "official" external HDDs.

Under the specifications tab down near the bottom of the page it states 1 year warranty on parts and labor.

Open it up and the drive inside will have the usual 3 year warranty from the HDD MANUFACTURER. Got both of mine today. Hitachi Deskstar 7K2000 drives inside with a mfg date of Oct 2009. Serial #s on the drives check out on the HGST RMA site - in warranty until Oct 2010.
