May be a good deal for some, but Mcafee is a serious ram hog

can it detect stuff in the master boot record? I've heard Microsoft Security Essentials isn't a memory hog(it's completely free and not a free-trial like this one)...but it also hasn't been able to detect whatever's causing my friend's computer to port scan all other devices in the network.
Myself, I prefer Avast because it is free and has always been free.
Best of all, even during beta, Avast worked <and still works> with Windows 7. I know for a fact Norton didn't <big waste of money that was>. <<walks into corner grumbling.......

Agree. I am using Avast since last 3 years. No problem ever so far.
Norton 2010 works great for me in Windows 7. I personally prefer AVG free over Avast, but I guess antivirus is a personal preference thing... 12 months free seems like a good deal because it cost money, although I don't like McAfee.

I previously used McAfee on my XP machine and hated how much of a hog it was. I just went to Win7 and downloaded the free Microsoft Essentials virus software. I really hope it does the trick, I am going to backup my drive much more just in case.

Just curious if everyone is getting this email after using this Mcafee trial download they said it was for one year when subscribing but it looks like this is bullshit
It's no longer showing as available. Does anyone have a link to the downloaded software? That may be all that's required, I'm willing to give it a shot unless someone else has tried already...
