I've seen this at homedepot.. if anyone owns one, please chime in on its build quality, performance and durability..
for comparison, my smoker: weber smokey mtn grill,; fair / good build quality ( no bells and whistles but solid); Awesome performer, can hold a steady 260 for 14 hrs. Enough capacity for 2 turkeys, 4 hams or pork shoulders, 6 chickens
Durability.. Its been outside for the last 4 years with the winter snow and summer sun.. no rust.
My Orion (the full size version) stays outside and has even spent a week or two in the weather (rain). I can cook baby back ribs in 1 hour and 15 minutes. Cooked a 21 pound turkey in 2 hours 10 minutes. Not fussing with the coals or wood or basting. It is all stainless steel...grates...poultry stand...drip pan... I love mine, but it isn't this one. Same construction though. No rust. Delicious food very fast.
I have the "full size" model as well. Wooted it last year for around $60. Tools were required but the thing is like a tank. Fairly heavy gauge 100% SS construction. 14# turkey in about 2 hours. It's never been in the house and almost looks new (slight discoloration from the heat). Grates inside for stacking chickens, shoulders, etc, and some rib-hangers. Smokers/BBQ's are like fishing poles, you need more than one.
I bought 2 of the full-size at HD on clearance for $37 each. FW effect, the second one is still in the box (I couldn't resist). I love mine. As the other posters stated, very well built. The only drawback is that it uses a LOT of charcoal. Being the cheapa$$ that I am, I salvage the hot coals and put them in my Weber kettle grill, and close the lid. The coals are extinguished. On my next Orion cooking, I retrieve those coals, and add some fresh coals to bring it all up to cooking level. The Orion is a nice cooker.
