No offense, but terrible deal. This time of year, there are already and will be many better deals on 42 inchers. Especially compared to a name brand better TV from Wal Mart on Saturday (and other easier to get deals), this is not a deal. Find another one.
If you want to stand in line at 8 AM at Saturday to compete for the very limited supply of the comparable Sharp 42".. be my guest. What easier to get deals are you referring to? I know Newegg has a comparible Phillips 42" 1080P LCD for ~$630 free shipping.. Are you thinking a refurb 42" Westy LCD from eCost for ~$479 + shipping?
This is under $500 (+ tax) with a 2 year warranty. Seems like a good deal to me (just bought one) Cheapest priced new 42" 1080P LCD I can find on the net (besides the Sharp loss leader) by at least $100.00

Please enlighten us as to the other sub $500 42" deals you have found, there haven't been many, and no good ones at that. I am considering this or the 42" Panny Plasma for $498.99. I am sure there will be better prices *possibly* in the near future, but I am willing to accept that.
Fair enough. There will almost certainly be several other deals in the near future where you can get a better brand and overall better TV at right about this price point. Some of them may take a little effort. If you need a TV this week and want one with the least possible effort, I guess this is a reasonable deal.

Based on your own statement that there are "no good ones at that", then why do you immediately point to another one that you're considering buying (which is obviously a better deal)?
I guess I'd rather wait a couple weeks or put forth a little effort to get a better deal...seems like the spirit of Fatwallet. But like I said, if you want a 42" 1080p and want it right now, go for it.
This could be a good deal. Anyone know who makes the panel. The Insignia Plasma TV my friend bought had the Samsung panel. If this one is also made by Samsung, it could be good.

I know the local BB home theater manager. She says these are Samsung panels. BTW, I have the 37" version of this tv which I also paid $499 for last summer and IMO these are great tvs for the $$$.
You can get a Panasonic plasma for this price from bestbuy. Link Yes its not 1080P, but at this small size there is no advantage to 1080p, i would much rather get a Panasonic than Insignia.
OK, this is going back to Bestbuy.. Can't get a decent 1080p pc input to display.. Tried turning off the overscan, tried dvi-vga, hdmi-hdmi input.. might be a great TV, but sucks as a PC monitor. I have a Samsung and a Vizio that work great, crisp and clear.. The Insignia doesn't.
Anyone get a good PC input via HDMI?

Hmmmm.... But that was from 2006. The ratings I have seen have been good so far. There are only 3 or 4 diff companies that make most of all te parts in every flat panel anyway. Does anyone know how well Blue Ray looks on this TV?
Lots of times you can tell exactly who manufacturers the screen simply by plugging it into a Windows PC (try VGA or HDMI) and see what it shows up in the Device Manager as. A buddy of mine had a Dynex 32" from a year or 2 ago and when you plugged it into his laptop it showed up as a pretty decent LG screen.
