No one has posted this yet on this site, saw the deal on Ben's site.

Model: NS-L42Q-10A | SKU: 9155479

No offense, but terrible deal. This time of year, there are already and will be many better deals on 42 inchers. Especially compared to a name brand better TV from Wal Mart on Saturday (and other easier to get deals), this is not a deal. Find another one.

If you want to stand in line at 8 AM at Saturday to compete for the very limited supply of the comparable Sharp 42".. be my guest. What easier to get deals are you referring to? I know Newegg has a comparible Phillips 42" 1080P LCD for ~$630 free shipping.. Are you thinking a refurb 42" Westy LCD from eCost for ~$479 + shipping?

This is under $500 (+ tax) with a 2 year warranty. Seems like a good deal to me (just bought one) Cheapest priced new 42" 1080P LCD I can find on the net (besides the Sharp loss leader) by at least $100.00

Thanks OP.

Please enlighten us as to the other sub $500 42" deals you have found, there haven't been many, and no good ones at that. I am considering this or the 42" Panny Plasma for $498.99. I am sure there will be better prices *possibly* in the near future, but I am willing to accept that.

Fair enough. There will almost certainly be several other deals in the near future where you can get a better brand and overall better TV at right about this price point. Some of them may take a little effort. If you need a TV this week and want one with the least possible effort, I guess this is a reasonable deal.

No, YOU find another one. We'll be waiting.

Based on your own statement that there are "no good ones at that", then why do you immediately point to another one that you're considering buying (which is obviously a better deal)?

I guess I'd rather wait a couple weeks or put forth a little effort to get a better deal...seems like the spirit of Fatwallet. But like I said, if you want a 42" 1080p and want it right now, go for it.

This could be a good deal. Anyone know who makes the panel. The Insignia Plasma TV my friend bought had the Samsung panel. If this one is also made by Samsung, it could be good.

Can a extended warranty be brought with this TV?

green for me....2 weeks ago it was the dynex 42" panel for 499. dynex is the economy best buy brand, insignia is a step up from that.

Great deal OP, TYVM. May pull the trigger for the bedroom on this one. Red to the hater. No proof of a better deal means you're thread crapping.

I know the local BB home theater manager. She says these are Samsung panels. BTW, I have the 37" version of this tv which I also paid $499 for last summer and IMO these are great tvs for the $$$.

You can get a Panasonic plasma for this price from bestbuy. Link Yes its not 1080P, but at this small size there is no advantage to 1080p, i would much rather get a Panasonic than Insignia.

The PANNY Plasma will slap these cheap LCDs silly in term of performance. That's just my opinion. Blame on.

OK, this is going back to Bestbuy.. Can't get a decent 1080p pc input to display.. Tried turning off the overscan, tried dvi-vga, hdmi-hdmi input.. might be a great TV, but sucks as a PC monitor. I have a Samsung and a Vizio that work great, crisp and clear.. The Insignia doesn't.

Anyone get a good PC input via HDMI?

Hmmmm.... But that was from 2006. The ratings I have seen have been good so far. There are only 3 or 4 diff companies that make most of all te parts in every flat panel anyway. Does anyone know how well Blue Ray looks on this TV?

Lots of times you can tell exactly who manufacturers the screen simply by plugging it into a Windows PC (try VGA or HDMI) and see what it shows up in the Device Manager as. A buddy of mine had a Dynex 32" from a year or 2 ago and when you plugged it into his laptop it showed up as a pretty decent LG screen.

I have decided not to buy anything this week or next. And all of next year I am gonna wait til black friday. Of course there is always going to be a better deal at some point. Relax. OP posted a good deal for this time period that does not require standing out in the cold, snow, rain etc for 5 per store. Relax and enjoy the ride.

Thanks, that's a deal-killer for me. I was planning on using it as a HTPC monitor, but an accurate native resolution picture over HDMI is essential. If this TV won't do that, then forget it.

split screen? anyone know?

1400:1

Is that good?

1400 to 1 that these are any good..

I don't get it. I thought the higher the ratio the better the picture? 1400:1 seems like it sucks. My Samsung T24HD is 10000:1

Plenty of reviews with that link & people like it: 4.2 of 5 (54 reviews)

The tuner seems weird:
Built-in HDTV tuner
Add HD-capable antenna to receive over-the-air high-definition broadcasts, where available. Optional set-top box required for high-definition cable or satellite programming.

Buy with a major credit card and extend warranty by another year (to 3 years)...

DON'T EVEN THINK about buying an extended warranty on electronic products. The failure rate is so low (and usually infant mortality--which is covered), that ext. warranties on flat panel TVs is a colossal waste in almost all circumstances.

Extended Warranties are a HUGE profit center for retailers and the reason Circuit City hung on as long as it did.

If it makes a ton of PURE PROFIT for those selling them, how can it be good for consumers? It's clearly not.

Go to www.clarkhoward.com for more info on this subject.

i had to buy an upgraded video card for my pc to get the insignia to work as a monitor..but my pc worked great on my samsung in the livingroom without the new video card. So i returned the 75.00 video card and the insignia to buy a better brand that worked fine with my 2008 pc. Just a thought for people wanting to use it as a monitor..as ive seen many threads of people having the same problem..i wont argue that , thats not a bad price though!!

Just pickup last one from my local BestBuy today, very happy! This one is 60Hz, and BestBuy is also carrying 120Hz version. They aren't displaying these 42" LCD, you have to ask for them.

I don't have problem like you have. I am using VGA to VGA from my HTPC, full 1080p screen and crystal. Also tried HDMI and DVI to HDMI all working good! I guess it is your computer video card problem.

I'm very happy to report I purchased this tv, scanned for channels, and noticed unexpectedly it does in fact have a QAM tuner!

This is a great deal, the picture and quality are alot better than I expected given that it is an "Insignia." Insignia is doing the right thing trying to break into the market, by offering a 2 year warranty.

I tried DVI to HDMI and DVI to VGA and had bad results.. ended up taking it back and getting an LG 42LH40.. works good, but cost $200 more.. Was using a ATI Radeon 5750. Now have the LG 42H40, Samsung 52B550, and Visio VS42LF in Triple head!

If you are just looking for a 42 LCD TV and not looking for a PC monitor, still the best deal!

5% Bing YMMV

all tv's sold these days have a qam tuner.

Unlike the case with ATSC tuners there is no FCC requirement that QAM tuners be included in new television sets, but most do anyway http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QAM_tuner

There is some talk that this may not be the case in the future.

Took a plunge with this 42" LCD. Seems like a pretty good unit for the money. Sound is a bit weak but the picture is actually pretty good.

Bing helped out to the tune of 5%. Thanks OP.

They added another $20 off for paypal buy... Not interested in the TV... but a good deal.

How does this compare to the 499 proscan 40" at costco.com?

a) I'd rather have an Insignia over a Proscan
b) 2 less inches.
c) I would never buy from a company that wants to charge me to shop in their store.

While this may or may not be true depending on how close you sit to the TV, one thing still amazes me. "Small" and 42"? I grew up watching a 19" CRT and that was the normal size. My uncle had a "big" 25" CRT (console) and we thought that it was great when we could go to his house and watch sports....and I'm not that old...it was the 1980's.
