Very good price for this machine. This is probably the best machine out there. You will never eat supermarket sandwich bread again after tasting homemade bread

Anyone with school aged children should have a bread machine. Bread cost about 25¢ to make at home. Thats if you buy yeast at costco or order a 1 to 2 lbs bag of yeast. Supermarket yeast is 10x more expensive. I have the Zojirushi BB-HAC10 1-Pound-Loaf machine that I bought for this same price. Small machine is only good for 2 people max.

These machines will also make pizza dough, cookie dough, meatloaf (not all BM's), etc. A digital kitchen scale is a must to weigh bread flour for consistant bread...Instead of buying a muffin, bagel or whatever in the morning, I just set my timer and I have fresh made milk bread as I wake up. I slice off a big chunk, bag it and eat with my cappuccino at work.

We just got one of these. I too paid more. It makes very good bread. However, even at the lowest setting, the crust is too crusty.

Edit: I didn't double-post - Fatwallet's fault. Mods - I had a reply - had to log in - and boom - double-post.

Q8. Why is the crust sometimes thick and/or hard?
A8. A thick and/or dark crust usually means there is too much flour in your recipe. This could be caused by flour that was not measured accurately, or flour that is too old or too dry. To remedy this, reduce the amount of flour by two tablespoons; or use milk instead of water; or use the sandwich setting (if available). If this still does not provide favorable results, please contact our Customer Service Department for assistance by calling 800-733-6270, M-F, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PST.”

Are you using a scale?

Thanks!!! I'll forward that to my wife. With our old bread machine, she didn't have this issue, so, hopefully this is the cure. And, nope, no scale.

Good for gluten sensitive people, right? Thinking of getting one for my wife. Store-bought gluten free bread is terrible.

The next faq in the link

Q9. When should I weigh my flour when making bread in my Home Bakery breadmaker?
A9. We recommend you weigh your flour when the bread doesn’t rise properly, the loaf is too dense or the crust is too hard. Please see below for guidelines:
1 cup of Bread Flour equals: 4.5 oz. or 128g
1 cup of Whole Wheat Bread Flour equals: 4.2 oz. or 120g

Several hints:
Sift your flour or weigh it.
Depending on how old your yeast is, add an extra 1/4 tsp.

Hey - thanks for the tips... My wife tried the 2 TBSP less flour and it turned out way better. It did sink, so maybe I'll have her try the little bit more yeast.

She never sifts.

BTW - we got ours from Kohl's. They have a high price: $230, but... You can combine % off (and free shipping) if you are a Kohl's card holder. I was holding out for 30% off, but I wound up getting 20% off + $10 in Kohl's cash for every $50 spent.
