This might not be the place to ask, but I figured I'd give it a try.
We already have a 1080p Sony Bravia 46" in another room of our house. Our living room just got finished, and I want to put a TV in there. The living room can be made cave like with the black out drapes we have (my husband is a true cave dweller Our receiver and Home theater set up with Blu-ray is on the Bravia. I'd like a TV that I can stick a mid range Home Theater set-up on, and place in the living room.
My question is this...this X1 set seems pretty darn good for the price. However, I also have the little thing in my head that makes me want to fork a few hundred more beans out for the 50" S1. I'm not a TV-phile snob. But neither am I a neophyte. Is this X1 worth it for a second common household TV?
Thanks for sharing the trick with the rest of us who can't find it...
goto bing.com search for "lcd tv" click on the Dell link at the top of the web page (maybe on the right) you'll see the 5% splash screen and be redirected to de11.

it depends on your viewing distance
i'm a huge plasma person. A well calibrated/tuned plasma will have better picture quality over a typical LCD TV. At 600ish for a 50" plasma, i also think it's a huge bargain. Save the other couple hundred dollars for speaker upgrades.

Thanks, RHCCapri!
Seems like a legimately good deal. Does anyone know how long this model has been manufactured?

Do I have to sign up for the DPA with my ssn and license # and all of that?

I'm hugely interested in this TV set, but I too am also looking at the 1080p S1. Is there going to be a noticeable difference between 1080p and 720p at about 6 or so feet away that upgrading to the 42" S1 (at presumably a slight premium based on what I've seen of the BF ads) is going to be a noticeable difference? Should I wait for BF to see what else they come up with? Thanks.
OMG...can you believe my husband said we actually don't need a 50" plasma? I think he has been taken over by pod people. <shakes head> I'm kinda worried.
im not sure u really want that option for a large screen tv anyway. you would get much better picture and sound by using something other than a laptop via vga and again u would be watching a 50inch tv but limited to the speaker off your laptop without additional hookups or equipment. if u need it for powerpoint or some other computer reason then i could see it as being a valuable option.
I thought I should be able to connect the audio to the TV ( as I used with my current 27" LCD tv) from the laptop. so the sound is not too bad. Yes, you are right, this would be good for powerpoint presentation of our weekly gathering.

Bought this TV the last time it was posted here for a few bucks more. This TV is great. Very vibrant, bright, and great quality blacks. It is NOT 1080p but we have it set up next to a 1080p 56" rear-projection Mitsubishi DLP and the plasma looks better. CNET reviewers did a side-by-side test between the 1080p version and said they saw no difference. If you are using a blu-ray player though, then perhaps you will see a difference since blu-ray is the only real abundant source of 1080p content.
I very often stream media from my computer to the display and it looks fine. Recently purchased a laptop with HDMI out and the HDMI carries the audio through the TV speakers as well.
For a little more than $600 I would recommend this TV to anyone. CNET itself claimed only true videophiles will notice any sort of difference.
No complaints here and I have used this TV in many different ways (Main display, secondary display, video games, computer, etc.)
the early productions of this TV have some sort of diagonal banding issues. Panasonic fixed them for the newer ones. I wonder which ones Dell is sending out.
Hi all, I just chatted with a Dell rep, and they couldn't tell me the manufacture date of this TV. The diagonal line issue was apparently corrected starting with models made in June 2009 on. If you get a TV with this issue, and it bothers you (apparently some people it doesn't bother)...you have to pay for shipping back to Dell + a 15% restocking fee. I am still thinking about this TV, but I'd have to say that Dell's return policy + their inability to tell me the manufacture date of the TV keep me from buying it despite the fact it is a great price. Thanks ordered one. $718 or some with tax. I don't know if I am really going to get the Cash Back. Looks like others had issues with Dell and Bing combo.

It didn't give me the 3% Dell preferred account discount. How did you get that?
Login to your Dell account Add the TV to your cart and Check out Select Payment Type CREDIT CARD not DPA Then you will get the offer: "Save 3% with Dell Preferred Account! (Discount applied at Final Checkout)".
You can then use or sign up for a DPA to get the extra 3% off.
Bio.Dreamer on SD reported: I pulled the trigger but didn't get my DPA discount and was charged $669 + tax. I had buyer's remorse, so I called in to cancel. In order to get to me to keep the order, the CS rep offered additional $70 off on the TV! $669 - 70 = $599 It may be worth trying to play hard ball with the order retention department.
savebigable said: anyone knows that plasma TV use more electric than LCD TV? Is this true. If it is, by how much? Thank you.
399 Watts is the MAXIMUM for an all white screen with the contrast turned up all the way which it NEVER is. Independent tests put the TC-P50X1 power use between 160-258 watts during normal viewing which is the same as a comparable 50" LCD.
Um, no. The cable is only for laptops (or video cards) that have the ability to send composite or S-Video via a VGA connector. No conversion is done by the cable.
And don't even get me started on the huge quality loss you're going to get by dropping the VGA output down to composite. To do this properly you need a VGA->component transcoder (assuming your laptop can't send component video via the VGA output - and it might be able to).
Tried to use the Bing instructions, and nowhere does it say "Dell" after searching "LCD TV". This is my first time trying to use Bing, so maybe I am doing something wrong.
I goto Bing.com. There is a picture of a dinosaur. I type, "LCD TV" and search. No where do I see the word Dell. I even searched for it on the page. I tried clicking on the "Bing CashBack" link there, and it just gives me a list of LCD TVs. I also tried looking at list of CashBack stores, and Dell is not listed there.
berwynask said: CELO said: IrfanPathan said: does the delivery company setup the TV also ? or they just drop the TV in the house and run? DO I need to connect and make sure its working before they leave?
They delivered and set up mine today! Sucker is big! I got mine for $609 shipped and hopefully + Bing CB, we'll see Thanks OP!
$609 after Bing ??? How can you get it?
No, before I got additional $100 ($106 w/tax) from Dell because of some problems. So, actually $603 If this credit does not affect Bing (the credit shows under different order so, it should not affect), then additional $34 and MAYBE additional $3 from BigCrumbs
So, I maybe able to get it for $566 including everything!
