This phone might not be as cheap as the Wirefly friends and family deal (UPDATE: $129.99 ), but it looks like its not the easiest of tasks to upgrade an individual line within a family plan over there. I used this yesterday to get my DROID for $149, free two day ship and no tax or rebate!
I have a tendency to confuse when I type so I'll try to say it another way for good measure. I looked at the general options for upgrading your phone at Wirefly and noticed that you can do Individual or Family. I'm on a family plan so I select family, but it didn't allow me to select just one phone to upgrade, always 2+. So I tried amazonwireless.com and lo and behold there was an option during purchase to upgrade a single number on a family account and I decided to just go with that.
So if you are having similar troubles, this is the deal for you!

I am confused. I am currently in a contract with verizon, but I have until 7/10 before my contract is up. Is there anyway to purchase the phone and extend the contract I already have by 2 years to get the droid at the cheaper price?
yes you must qualify for upgrade. I actually asked verizon to allow an early upgrade by two months and the customer service rep was great and agreed! After they updated their records i checked my verizon account and proceeded to get the phone on Amazon with no problems

good to know... maybe i'll try calling em, but in my case it would be a super-early upgrade, so I'm not going to hold my breath...
Okay to clarify... the NE2 means you get any phone up to $50 dollars in value, free every two years, OR that you can upgrade at reduced pricing equivalent to a new contract. This deal would be the reduced pricing, not a $50 dollar credit

Actually, VZW allows anyone on a 1 year contract to upgrade for a discount (and extend their contract) after 10 months of the 12. If you are under a 2 yr contract, it is 20 months. It should be automatic and no need to call. If you login in to your account and choose "upgrade my phone" you will see discounted prices once you get within 2 or 4 months of end of contract.
Did you have a PDA phone before? Did Amaz0n make you add the $30 data plan to your account when you added the 'droid - if you didn't have it before?
AFAIK the last PDA phone they allowed on the network without a data plan was the HTC Touch, so I'm sure they'll make you add the data plan. My last phone was a Touch Pro so I was already suckered into the Unlimited plan by that point lol.

Lol.
not helpful, that a yes or no?
I would guess NE2 is only available if you buy the phone from VZW direct.
In the NE2 fine print:
New Every Two redemptions may not be available at Verizon Wireless authorized dealers. Your New Every Two discount is applied to the two-year discounted retail price of a new device.
So it sounds like even if they allowed the discount via a dealer, they could say you are already paying $50 or more off of retail and are thus entitled to no more discount...
Note that nowhere does it say NE2 is a rebate, so if Amaz0n does not give you an additional discount then I would not expect VZW to give you the money back.
