Reviews look decent for this computer. I wonder if the power supply would support a decent video card for an inexpensive gaming rig?

AMAZON Reviews

i searched for HP.com for the model number, it came up with a Phenom II 820 instead of 620, and the PSU on that is 300w. So this is probably the same.

Doesn't seems to have HDMI

I got this computer 15 days ago at OD. It's been a dream. It runs almost everything without any fuss. My Pentium D 925 couldn't run you tube or any games without overheating. This hasn't speed up it's fan even once.

It has an expansion for a card, you could easily pick one up. Looks like a fine system for someone in the market who doesn't build their own.

HP's Link

Plan to upgrade before buying, it's got a Nvidia GeForce 9100 graphics 256MB integrated shared card

Just ordered one, thanks! As a developer, my requirements are: quad-core, supports VT (virtualization), 6GB RAM, nVidia with DVI. There is no need for gaming.

I did quite some comparison with recent HP deals, comparing with e9210t and e9200z. After upgrading e9210t to Intel Q9300 (since most Q8300 doesn't support VT), or upgrading e9200z to Phenom II X4 920 (in order to qualify for coupon), their price all went up to around $625 before tax. After comparing CPUs, seems Athlon II 620 on this p6210f is quite power for most tasks (comparable to Intel Q8300 level). The only thing lacking is multi-tasking (like compressing a big file while watching HD video, though I doubt how many people do that). Also, for Athlon II 620 (or maybe or such HP or Dell machines), DDR-3 memory doesn't show much difference over DDR-2 (possibly because of cheap motherboard anyway).

Bottom line is: this is a wonderful deal for a very decent developer machine. The only thing I may want to have is a more powerful PSU (300W vs the 350W on HP elite series). $450 vs $625 that is a huge difference (40%). Also Staples has excellent return policy (14 days in store).

Thanks for the post OP.

I just purchased one online and Staples says they will have it to me tomorrow. Good price for what appears to be an outstanding machine.

I also needed a new monitor, since one of mine recently died and the other one has 3 dead pixels. Still using that one with what is now my main machine and will continue to do so. Decided I wanted the HP 2009M 20-Inch HD LCD Monitor for this one, which Staples has for $149+ but checked Amzn.com and through J&R they have exactly the same monitor for $139.99 w/free shipping and no tax. Guess where I bought?

Thanks again. By FAR the best specs on any machine I've owned.

Bill

It looks like you will also need to install a wireless card also or am I missing something.

Is wireless typically an expectation on a desktop? Doesn't strike me as a standard feature, but maybe I'm behind the times...

not particularly. Only a handful come preinstalled

My machine arrived and I am extremely happy with it. It is totally comparable with my Dell XPS 420 with Intel Q9300 CPU, which is surprising.
I am running Ubuntu and lots of development stuff on it, including 64-bit VM. The machine is super quiet, definitely a great buy (cheapest quad-core I can find).

looks OOS

OOS online, some stores still have it. Gonna go get me one in a bit and will report back.

My local store has this model in stock, but the price has changed
to $599. The sales rep said they were unable to look back to see if it
had been on sale earlier and they wouldn't sell to me at the OP's posted $450.
Is there any way to still get the $450 pricing?

I think OD will have a even a better deal on BF

Need new desktop... Mostly do Word processing, email, browsing, occasional gaming(dont know last game I bought...maybe Counterstrike source)

See it's 450 at OD: http://www.OfficeDepot.com/a/products/325620/HP-Pavilion-p6210f-Desktop-Computer-With/
Also considering.... the P6240F from OM at 630... http://www.officemax.com/catalog/sku.jsp?productId=prod2760055&csRedirectSearchString=22129876&csRedirectSearchResultCount=1&csSearchTag=true&_requestid=219855

Any opinions?

If you're still looking, p6240f is now $599 @ Staples w/ a free HP wireless 6000 printer... add to a $30 / $150's and free 3 pc travel set of luggage available. Just got one + used about 6 codes with it - will come to around $480 after selling printer + set
