Wicked loud. Wakes the dead. I had one of these 50' from where I was sleeping and when it went off, like someone running a food processor filled with rocks right next to your head.
Has a grinding chamber anchored with a plastic peg. The peg will break off about every 2-3 months. You can crazy glue it back on or ask for warranty replacements if you have a warranty. Or every night stick the peg in there, and then the grind chamber and hope nothing comes spanging out in a million pieces the next day.
Or at least that none of the bits of plastic end up in your coffee.
Just buy a nice $25 coffee maker and either buy your coffee ground or grind it the night before in a $9 grinder, if you're a "purist".
I've had this coffee maker for many months...gift from gf who knows how much I love good coffee.
Do not buy this. It is incredibly loud...like vacuum cleaner loud, but that isn't the worst part. The chamber that holds the beans for grinding gets wet from the steam, so you have to spend a couple minutes cleaning it out EVERY TIME you make coffee. Actually adds time to your morning routine.
After a couple weeks of this I pulled my old grinder out of the cupboard and now use it to grind my beans and use the coffee maker as if it has no grinder feature.
Also, you must have superhuman strength to twist the lid off of the carafe. So, old people and/or those with weak hands should look elsewhere.
I am going to keep using it for the rest of the year for the sake of appreciating the gift from y gf, and then it is going to suffer an unfortunate accident.

If you're really a purist, you'd have bought the $30 burr grinder from costco. I came here to warn the masses about this machine, but you've done a good job of that already.
And Guapo too, yes, I remember having this and it was a mess.

If you really want a Grind & Brew coffemaker, look at Capresso. They have a burr grinder built in and the grind area is away from the brew area so that steam mess that Cusinart is "famous" for, is avoided. The Capresso models aren't bad, but they are expensive. You can find reconditioned models around, and at there website (still $$$). I put mine on mothballs and have started using the Keurig (Yes Virginia, with the RIGHT K-cup, you can get an excellent cup O'cafe.) And miracle of miracles, the K-cup is totally constant !!!!!
I've had one of these for several years (refurbished)and recommend it. Other then it being a little noisy,I've never expereinced any of the negaitves reported by others in the thread.
I've also had one of these for years and like it. I'ts loud for about 15 seconds and starts to brew quietly. I also have to believe it's a money saver on electricity. Once the machine pours the coffee into the thermos type pot it's done running. Not like those machines with the warmer plates on the bottom to keep the coffee warm. My coffee in this machine's pot stays hot for hours. This is also a great price because I've seen this cost more than double this price!

While you're exactly right about the chamber getting wet, if you're serious about good coffee you should be cleaning it thoroughly after each use anyway. The oil from the grounds will get into your next batch and add bitterness to the next pot of coffee, wet or not.
I can recommend this highly. Have had one for several years and just bought a refurb from Woot a few weeks ago (at $5 higher price). We put the second one in storage but now have a second carafe (for company) and all the internal parts can be switched out and cleaned in the dishwasher after every use. Other than being a little loud, I haven't had the problems that others have had.

Well, there is cleaning and then there is CLEANING. Most grinders just require a quick wipe down with a paper towel. Do you have to clean your burr grinder after each use with soap and water and scrubbing with a sponge, and digging into every nook and cranny to remove the caked on wet coffee sludge that has deposited in every corner? That is what is required with this coffee maker.
