is this DD-WRT compatible right now? Or just hopeful to be in the future? Posts in the dd-wrt forum make it seem like work hasn't even started yet on this router.

it has its own linux build, even better than dd-wrt. check wl500g forum
"DD-WRT custom firmware compatible" is misleading because although the hardware itself should be compatible, there's no working build for this router yet. One of the devs was literally just sent a unit to work with, so don't expect to run DD-WRT immediately.
Right. Although a RT-N16 is (just barely) in the hands of a DD-WRT developer, you can't load DD-WRT on it yet. Seems likely that it will in the future though.
Why's this moved to expired deals already? It's been going back and forth between available and not, right now it's available.
orens said: no updates here, still says "Order Status: IN PROGRESS The supplier has not provided us with a firm shipping date."Same with me, although I just saw a post from someone who ordered two and got them both. Looks like they are going to ship, eventually.

Ordered it 11/7 and hasn't shipped yet but I'm very hopeful that it will ship later this week. I also have high hopes that the Tomato firmware may run on it at some point although it's going to take more time for that than it did for DD-WRT which has a long track record of supporting many more models of routers and I don't think it's guaranteed.
Nothing yet. Ordered on 11/12. The RT-N16 doesn't even show up on Provantage's web site... Newegg has about 30 in stock.
EDIT - Just called Provantage since they placed a hold on the funds on my account. It turns out that they automatically do that once a week on back-order items. The CSR did say that they show a shipping date of 12/9. We'll see what happens. If it does not ship by then, I will cancel the order, since I don't really need the router (yeah I know - fw phenomena) but I could use the fund hold removed from my account.

I am still waiting as well. I just called and they don't know why it hasn't shipped yet. The CSR rep said they were waiting for stock from ASUS. I told her that was BS because it shows that you have 8 available on the web. She then told me she will get back to me later.
I am going to give it a few hours, if I don't get a return phone call, I will call back and speak to a SUP to see if I can get this resolved as I think we have all be patient enough with them!

Called again and was told that they are looking at 12/30 (!!?!) to ship it out. I am not sure what to do at this point...
Today they said they aren't going to fulfill these remaining orders at all as it is below cost. They are working with the distributor on either a negotiated discounted price between the 34 and the current retail or a lower model at the order price.

I am calling to complain. This is the email I just received from them. The alternative router is not all that great and the price is crap.
My thought's are if this was indeed a price mistake then it should not have taken over a month to let us know.
Dear Provantage Customer,
We have received your web order for the ASUS RT-N16 MultiFunctional Gigabit Wireless N Router. Unfortunately, ASUS had sent our distributor partner an erroneous price for this product and will not be able to honor the cost they had offered to us, and in turn, the price we had offered you. As a result, our price for this product has increased to $92.26.
As an act of good faith, we have negotiated special pricing with ASUS on the ASUS RT-N13U for those customers who had ordered the RT-N16 at the lower price. This is a limited time exclusive offer to you and will expire within one week. Our regular price on the RT-N13U is $50.45, and we will be able to honor the $34.80 price that was submitted on your order for the ASUS RT-N16.
Therefore, you have 3 options:
1. Cancel your order for the ASUS RT-N16 completely.
2. Take advantage of your exclusive offer for the ASUS RT-N13U. We will replace the product on your existing order with the exclusive special offer.
3. Pay the increased cost for the ASUS RT-N16.
Please reply to this email and instruct us on how you would like to proceed. Just a reminder, you only have one week to take advantage of the exlusive pricing offer on the ASUS RT-N13U.
We apologize for any inconvenience, and if we could have done anything to prevent this discrepancy from happening, we would have.

So did anyone get anything on this deal?
It just pisses me off as there was another deal on these routers that I passed on thinking that these were coming. Yup, same thing happened to me. I really thought this was going to ship but guess it was wishful thinking. Near as I can tell, according to Provantage, Asus made a pricing mistake to the warehouses. Everyone, including Provantage, has loopholes stating they don't have to honor price mistakes and Provantage has no intention of eating approximately $50 per router. Hard to believe, or understand, why it took a month to figure this out. As has been said, during that month, lots of great deals on N routers came and went. There were a lot of other decent deals at the same time as the Provantage one and many others around black Friday. Shame on Provantage.
Looks like the only folks who got them for the low price ordered earlier than most of us, when they were still showing in-stock, before it went to special order.
