Green for op, even though I'm in crappy NJ.Let me state unequivocally: You do NOT want to live in Michigan. -Unless you like high taxes, lawmakers who don't act, a governor who doesn't lead, and oh yeah, you don't need a job. Otherwise for 6 months out of the year it's a pretty nice place.

Actually, that sounds just LIKE NJ ... I don't want to brag,, but we have the highest property taxes in the country, highest car insurance, ridiculous house prices AND the most SuperFund toxic waste sites in the country. We're also the most densely populated. So there.
Here in Cali Arnold ok'd sale of lots of state property, including some real esate, to pay off the gov. bills. They sent people IOU's instead of their tax refund. Fires burning people's houses cuz they said they cut back on firefighters.

I don't find Michigan taxes all that oppressive. However, I am beginning to think that we could encourage Iranian and North Korean nuclear weapons development on the condition that all testing be conducted above ground - in Lansing. It really has reached to point where the legislature has become a self-parody.
hey i live in Lansing dont do that! Yes Michigan sucks...there are jobs at 7.40 an hour and part time! for the holidays anyway...everyone is leaving this state....the schools are losing students so fast their budgets are really screwed now especially after the school aid reduced by our wonderful legislators.

I live in Michigan and EVEN I hate living here. Unemployement is at an all time HIGH. People in Michigan were so stupid when they voted and gave Grandholm another 4 years as Governor, All she does as smile for the camera and acts like she done a great job when a company says its going to hire 1000 people like thats some big accomplishment for her!

Remember that Michigan's unemployment is, in a major part, due to the brain trust of GM (Pontiac Aztek, anyone?) and the former Daimler-Chrysler (how do you pronounce it? The "Chrysler" is silent ...) Recovering from their fatal errors is a job that not even Mitt Romney could do (despite primary promises, freakin' panderer that he (wa)(i)s.
Let's not forget to offer "Thanks!" to the inept, dysfunctional Legislature. The ideologues are so busy proving that they are their parties' "True Believers," that they are forgetting that they are there to serve the people. Let's nuke it, and start over.
