It is working for me. At the final screen it adds shipping then shows a discount for the amount of shipping (pictured).

thanks for an awesome deal OP, been looking for a low priced 24" and this is perfect!

anyone know how long it takes for Bing CashBack to be confirmed to my email address? this is my first time using it, and i'm not sure if my purchase went through using Bing...

also, i only entered my email address and didn't go through any special Bing "sign-up" page.

thx.

Not to sound too dumb, but can this be used to watch television? If so how does one go about it, I just need some guidance and will do the research myself. Thank you.

how does this compare to 2408WFP?

Thanks OP...only $170 after bing...now
to auction my old Acer.

You can use almost any monitor to watch TV. You need a TV tuner or some means of gaining a signal/streaming feed. This would not be the deciding factor on what you want to do.

Radebus, This monitor does not have a television tuner built in. It must have a video source. For example, you can use a computer (DVI or VGA), a DVD player (HDMI), camera (HDMI), a cable box (HDMI) etc. If you want to look at TV directly, you need to get one that includes a digital tuner (ATSC) and you need an antenna for free public broadcasts, or some cable systems can be viewed if the tuner handles QAM. You could also use this monitor and buy a computer internal card or a USB device that would allow DVR type viewing using you computer hard drive. Lots of choices ...

In before the obligatory "TN Panel = Suck" post.

Good deal , and the warranty is excellent -- but I do question the ability of these big cheap TN panels to perform adequetly. Per many reviews, this specific model is quite a bit worse than normal in terms of viewing angle and colors washing out (at which point you'd probably notice even when viewing it dead on) - that could end up being very annoying on a monitor this size and possibly a deal breaker for some folks.

Maybe I'm exagerating the issue and I realize TN panels are the norm for cheap LCDs -- I'm on a TN panel right now, thus I may not even notice on a monitor this size.

The viewing angle is limited on a TN panel, but 24" is not that big compared to TVs - it is still a screen that would normally be used by one person, not as a TV for several people in a room. For one person, sitting in the general vicinity of "in front of the monitor", you do not notice color wash out or viewing angle problems. Non-TN panels cost more than double typically and are not needed unless you have multiple people watching the screen or are a graphics arts professional.

Thanks for listing an alternative product. I'd definitely get the ASUS over the Dell - I'd question the Dell monitor as a "deal" considering it's lack of any advanced features. I'd say it's appropriately priced at $179.

5 reasons to get the ASUS over the Dell:

*It's Newegg, enough said
*Same 3 year warranty
*Fully adjustable stand, which can be important for TN monitors depending on your sitting style and chair type
*Advanced video features such as dynamic contrast, which really makes the difference with movies and games
*No tax, free shipping, which makes it cheaper than the Dell by a few bucks

i couldn't disagree more.

*a number of recent complaints about Newegg sending used items to people who paid for new items... see the 5870 video card thread on hardocp
*same 3 year warranty
*stand not a factor for many, the Dell has tilt capability
*no true videophile would ever use dynamic contrast, it distorts the picture
*no true videophile would ever use the cheap speakers that come on these monitors
*Newegg has tax in california, so Dell is cheaper

question is this a better deal or the aoc 21'' for 115?

I would never buy a monitor from Newegg because of their absurd dead pixel policy. The Asus VH's are great TN's, though, I have the 26" and it is gorgeous, no viewing angle issues at all. Between the two 24" monitors, really just get whichever is cheaper. I believe they use the same CMO panel, in fact.

No build-in speakers.

I don't know why the red. But I found your post useful. I think you should also include Built-in Speakers. This is useful if you already have a cable/sat/uverse set-top-box that has HDMI output. I just don't know if the ASUS supports HDMI audio. Not a big deal since the set-top-box always has audio out.

BTW, no true videophile would buy a 24" TN panel for video. So who cares?

Nice try, but Newegg has a stellar reputation. Stand is far better, so nothing wrong with that, use it or don't. Dynamic contrast is a matter of preference, which you can disable or enable in the settings. Speakers - who cares. Maybe you'd be surprised by the fact that most people don't live in California.

Asus still wins, and it has generally better reviews w/ many statements of not a single dead pixel.

And on a side note: if you don't care about the stand, Amazon has virtually the same model for $178.99 after rebate, Win #2 for Asus , http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VH242H-23-6-Inch-Widescreen-Monitor/d...

if the audio out of the so-called "set-top-box" is no big deal, why are you telling us that we have to have crappy speakers in a monitor, lol

stop contradicting yourself.

this is a computer monitor, first and foremost, and one reason that it's a better deal than the Newegg monitor is because the Dell support for this particular product is better than what you'll get from asus.

Get off the high horse bud. The Asus happens to be a better deal with more features. If you prefer Dell, then go for it, but don't expect everyone to agree with your baseless opinion. Contradiction?? you are the poster child. Using the word Videophile in a thread about a cheap TN panel monitor deal is the definition of contradiction. To correct your statement -- The ONLY reason you can claim it's better is because of Dell support.

I have a similar model ASUS, it's been decent. The color from the top to bottom changes fairly dramatically. Maybe I got a bad one, but a solid color screen looks like a gradient. I've calibrated it a number of times, and it's still pretty bad.

But in terms of cheap TN LCDs, I'm not sure you'd see a big difference in either the Dell or Asus. I'm giving Dell a try this time, and I'll use both in a dual monitor setup.

deal is dead.

The Dell is a much better monitor
Hate those monitors with built in speakers, make them hotter
Those speakers are junk compared to my external ones with sub

Deal is dead
Got in for one last nite

THANKS OP

damn... missed it.

Mine shipped already....due 11-13 by Fedex.

G
