Acer laptop with Intel Celeron processor, 15.4-inch screen, 2GB memory, a 160GB hard drive, and Windows 7 Premium $249 STARTS WED 11/11 It's not even listed on Best Buy's website yet. But, here's a link [cnet.com] to the article on CNET.
It went live five minutes ago. Ordered one with 5% BING and forgot $20 PayPal promo. I placed a second order through PayPal instead.. Good deal! I got free shipping since I'm a Reward Zone Premiere Silver member.
Nice. $20 paypal discount, plus 5% paypal invite discount. Wish I could have gotten the Bing CashBack, but it was sold out when I went to another browser to load Bing. Was able to get the Bing 5% to show up though ... but too late. I wonder if the Celeron is socketed ... hmmm. Might try to crack it open and replace it with a core2duo. Thanks, OP!

I'm gonna try and grab one in store tomorrow. I just found out I have $70 worth of Reward Zone certificates from points I just let accumulate over the past year or two. I'm hoping to keep my Premier Silver status but it's not looking good. We'll see..

It was out of stock in NY (Long Island) at 5 am online this am and all the local stores are showing no stock. BOGUS!

apparently you are too lazy to look up current specifications on this notebook, of course with your statement you are the one who hasnt purchased a laptop in four or five years and need to do some research, a steal at the price listed with the specs given, win 7 itself costs over $100
this is basically regular price for a very basic basic laptop. how is this a deal?

Regular laptop yes but regular price? Show me comparable new laptops at this price right now and I'll believe it. In for 2, one to keep and one to flip on craigslist. Green for OP.

Since when is $250 a "regular" price for a brand new laptop with W7 on it??? Nice deal OP!

It has a webcam, 64bit Windows7 Premium, and Draft-N wireless. I know it is an Acer, but for $250+tax including a 1 yr factory warranty, it seems like a good price.
I just bought 2 in a Dallas store about 15 minutes after the store opened...they seem to be opening at 9:30am now instead of 10am. They had about 10, but there are several stores in the area.
Although the ad link page says "not available" for shipping & store pickup. If you click "check stores" under that, then you'll see which stores have it and which ones do not. Before the local stores opened, all seemed to have stock online. When I left the store 45min after it opened, they still had a few left. The salesperson said he only found out about the promo in an email he received when the store opened, so he immediately knew what I was talking about when I asked about it.

I just brought one in Dallas bestbuy. one guy asked for 5 of them and it alerted everybody in the computer department including the manager and then they made a rule one per person only. Thanks for the Deal. On the box it says it has Webcam too.

Kindly post a link to where one can find an equivalent laptop for "regular price" anywhere, please. If you can't, then you might want to consider not threadcrapping.
Got one. I have not seen the bing Cash Back show up in my email yet. I also don't see the $20 in my paypal account. I guess because I used my credit card as a "back up sourse". Anyone got the same problem?

For the price, it seems great. The webcam is crystal clear although I'm unsure if it is 1.3 MP (1280x1024) or 0.3 MP (640x480) found in most sub $600 laptops. Wireless Draft-N is great as I plan to upgrade my router from Wireless G. The dual layer DVD burner is also nice. My unit's hard drive is a SATA II (3Gb/sec) made by Hitachi. I'm happy as long as it isn't a Western Digital, which makes weak laptop drives. It also has a PC Card Slot, but no memory card slot. The CPU is easily upgradeable to a Pentium Dual-Core via the panel at the bottom. It takes 4GB max memory. I also like that it has Windows 7 64bit preinstalled vs the 32bit version I've seen on other inexpensive machines. It also has an external VGA port. The curved keyboard is a bit different but I'm guessing it is better on the wrists. Although the case is all plastic like in a Lenovo, it seems quite sturdy which is very different from Acers of years past. The only thing it is lacking aside from a memory card slot is an eSata port...but at only $250 it is a good deal. The webcam is also clearer than on the Core2 Duo Dell Studio (which was a disappointment so I am returning it), and HP CQ60 I tested. I owned an Acer laptop 15 yrs ago, but at 1 1/2 yrs the motherboard stopped recharging the battery. I've been happy with using only Toshiba laptops ever since. I still have an Acer desktop that is 13 yrs old which still works, but can't run any current programs. I like this Acer laptop very much and am keeping it as a primary system regardless of the upcoming Black Friday deals. If you are still unsure, just don't open it for 14 days 'til you see the Black Friday deals.
I used to work at Texas Instruments and always viewed Intel as more savvy at marketing. For those concerned with the Celeron, note that is not a particular processor, but rather represents a price point of Intel processors. Intel's current line, about 4 yrs old, is based on the "core" platform. For the past few years, at any point in time, the Celeron represented Intel's value line, Pentium Dual-Core (mid-line), and Core2Duo (higher line). The Celeron, Pentium Dual-Core, and Core2Duo all have the same CPU architecture but vary in number of cores (single or dual) and on-CPU cache memory...that's all. All come in a variety of CPU and front-bus speeds. The best concise source of information (and helpful for proper CPU upgrading - lists voltage, front bus speed, & socket type) are these Wikipedia articles:
For AMD fans: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Turion_microprocessors
(you can list any model in a CPU series via selecting the series in the "list" section at the bottom of the Wikipedia article)
Centrino is a marketing label (not a CPU), that Intel allows if the machine has a CPU, WI-FI chipset, and motherboard chipset all made by Intel...that's all Centrino means, nothing more. To steer Celeron sales towards more expensive Intel CPUs, Intel ONLY allows the Centrino label on NON-CELERON based systems. So, if you get past Intel's marketing, you'll note that Celeron based systems are quite a value for mainstream use (Celeron Dual-Core CPUs are now also available).
As the "core" series CPU architecture has been in the market for about 4 years, Intel is now moving to its new platform...the "Core i3 / i5 /i7" series which supports DDR3 and 3Ghz speeds, which you'll see after Christmas....making whatever you buy now look pale in comparison. Hence, this is really a bad time to buy a laptop, let alone spend a lot of money on one. But for $250, I think the Acer's build quality and features make it worth buying now.
Sister stopped in a local Bestbuy to get one for her son and they pretended it didn't exist. There are two others close by so we'll see what happens there...

Thank you OP. I went to my local BB and got 2!! They are very very nice. And they are running 64 bit Windows 7 and seem rather peppy for a Celeron. Certainly faster than a mini or netbook.
The big surprise came when the doors opened. There was NOONE in the computer department. They didn't even know the sale was going on.
When they showed up they had no idea the sale was going on and didn't know where the computers were.
Not many customers showed up either even though this was a better deal than the WalMart deal last Saturday. If you were there when they opened you got at least one.
Store had 11 total.

My wife picked up a couple ( as gifts ) .. in Braintree, MA. Store opened at 12PM due to Veterans Day. Looks like they had about 25 in store and nearby stores also had like 25. Also they started limiting to 1 per person after a few people picked up 2 or 3. Thanks OP.
