Really good printer - I have had both Canons and HPs and Canons beat HPs by a long margin - functionality, driver bulk, robustness, usability. This is a great price, IMO.

Waited for some posts like "good deal, good printer, in for one" but nobody did That did not stop me buying one though Green OP!

GOOD DEAL!
GREAT PRINTER!
HAVE ONE!

cd-print hackable?

$199.99 at Bestbuy. Good deal, good printer.

Oh wow, good deal! I have this printer, got it from Costco. You can buy cheap ink cartridges for it too.

Had the same exact thought. From an Amazon reviewer:

"Second, unlike the MX850, the MX860 will NOT support CD/DVD printing. While the U.S. version of the MX850 requires a ~10 minute modification -- google "Canon five easy steps"-- and the purchase or fabrication of a CD tray, it does print professional-looking CDs. Canon clearly indicates no such capability for the MX860 on its European web site."

There are always printer deals for $50, why would i want to spend twice the price??

seems like a great printer. dunno how i missed it when researching... ended up with the HP officejet 8500 which is also an awesome printer but i spent $224 more OTD, minus the trade in printer of course so $174.

feature for feature, they seem more or less the same (ADF, duplex scan/copy), fax, wifi, ethernet, etc.). Ink seems cheaper for this Canon, though just based off one Amazon reviewer. One MAJOR flaw (if it is true) would be that that it only works in color greyscale: NO black only, which means if you print a lot more B&W, you will need to refill your colors as frequently. still very tempting for the price.

edit: did some research and read three review, and apparently quite a few more differences. this pixma is kind laggy in comparison to HP 8500 but then they really aren't in the same class. But more so, comparable printers in general on print/copy and esp. wireless print; takes roughly twice as long for both black text and dolor image prints. Ink price per page is double that of 8500. WiFi must be set up over usb initially (rather than over ethernet); smaller scree (non touch as well?); lack of built-in web server control panel?; software in general seems less intuitive; few people complained about crippled scan over network, etc.

Anyway great price. I'm glad that I did some additional research; now I'm not having 2nd thoughts.

Umm, it's a wireless, all-in-one, high quality photo printer. Find a better price for something like this.

I have the Costco one and it doesn't have a fax and looks slightly different.

No experience with these type of printers so please someone answer my question BEFORE they sell out:

Does the ink "dry out"/print quality suffer due to not being used for lets say 1 month?

While in question asking mode; does anyone know of good freeware (software) to organize receipts I will be scanning with this Canon?

Thanks!

The one I got about 3 or 4 months ago was exactly the same and has fax. MX860. I love the wireless feature. I don't have to put it next to a computer or run a long ethernet cable to it. It is very quiet too.

I have this printer and had got it from Amazon for about 140 about 6 months back. It does suck ink quite rapidly but there are cheap cartridges available like someone pointed out. It sure will dry up as well if unused.

I had been waiting for some sort of a price drop below $125 for this printer, so this seems to be a very good deal. Although I found this directly on Amazon prior to seeing this post, thanks for posting.

From the Amazon description I see that it has duplex printing. Does anyone knows if it supports duplex scanning, copying or fax?

Update - It does duplex scan and copy, but not fax.

pras

does it do PC fax?

in for 1

If you need to install this on a Linux, here are good instructions pixma 860.

I installed it on Linux Mint and both printing and scanning worked perfectly. Actually I can scan to Gimp at 2400dpi but in Win XP I can only scan at 600dpi. Didn't play too much with the Win software so maybe I missed something there.

Expired.... Dead.
