Good deal for those who can make it. (Too bad Im all the way over in seattle otherwise I would have tried)

Exactly, then they add port charges, boarding charges, taxes, extra taxes, fees, bonus fees and some other thing. Then you find your dinner is served at 11:00 PM and breakfast is at 4:00 AM, tricks of the trade.

Not a totally accurate statement. You do have other fees to consider such as 10-12$ per day gratuaties, taxes, drinks and shore excursions. You would never eat at the times you listed most cruise lines meals are at standard times and you have a choice of either a buffet of a sit down in dining room., Norweigen is actually different as you do not have set times and just go eat at either when you want. Dinner is probably open in the dining room from 5:30-9:30. Coming from someone who has been on 13 cruises this is a good deal if you enjoy cruising or would like to try it. This is one of the times of year that there will be good markdown on cruises as many people do not want to travel around the holiday season but you will get the same service and everything else as the trips in the peak months that can be 3-5 times this amount for the same cruise,
This is a GREAT deal, probably be around $350 after all is said and done (not including photos, souvenirs, shore excursions, ect....) and if they give you a lousy dinner time, talk to the maître d' and more than likely they will switch you to another dinner time that will fit your schedule. I know I went a few years ago around the same time for 199 for a 5 day cruise and it was an amazing time. Total cost was like $280 for the cruise.

There are a number of low cost cruise deals available at this time. This site sorts the deals based on cost per day and does not actually sell the cruises. You can book through your own cruise travel agent for many of these deals:

NCL is "Freestyle", no set dining times.
This is a screaming deal. If I hadn't just gone on a Norwegian Pearl cruise two weeks ago I'd totally be there.
Notice they also have a 5-day on the Dawn for $129 leaving on the 15th.

I don't seem to recall you posting any under $26 per day cruise deals. Would you post the links to those. Or for that matter give us a link to any under $26 per day cruise deal you have ever seen. The only one I recall was a reposition ship that required a transatlantic flight purchase.
This is a great deal. But if you go through the bestpricecruises.com website (and sign up for the free membership), the 11/29 Jewel sailing is a lower per person price after the on board credit (OBC) that bestpricecruises gives you. You get $125 on the 11/29 sailing vs. $25 on the 11/15 sailing. Since the $12 per day tips per person come to $168, you will be able to use the OBC towards your tips if you don't use it for other stuff.
The only problem with the 11/29 sailing is that it's right after Thanksgiving, so if you need to fly, you might have a hard time getting a good fare to the Miami area. BTW, the port charges are $92.27 p/p for either sailing.

The total cost per person is $291.27, which is excellent for a 7 night cruise visiting Belize and other ports. I've never seen a lower cost 7 night cruise out of Miami.

On a sailing with $199 fares being offered, I don't think there's much chance of massive crowds at the restaurants. Worst case, just take a pager and go have a drink.
Really good price. I've been scouring the web for a good price on a 7 night cruise leaving January 30 or 31. I know it is a more popular week than November but think it is sill somewhat of a post-holiday slow week. I'm hoping for a couple of price drops around the beginning of December but time will tell. The suspense is killing me!

I am not sure if their Hawaii ships did Freestyle differently than others, but I had a very poor experience on the NCL Pride of Hawaii (now known as the Jade and sailing in Europe). Reservations for decent times (read anything after 5:30 and before 9) filled up almost immediately, and people ended up having to be on line at 7am the previous day to get the times they wanted at popular restaurants. The newsletter they had in the cabin implied that reservations opened at 5:30pm the previous afternoon, but after getting there one day and finding nothing available I discovered that they actually booked starting in the morning.
I understand the Italian place, which was the best of the free specialty restaurants, now charges a fee.
I will admit I enjoyed being able to wear shorts to dinner.

I dunno, if they were anywhere remotely close to filling the ship they wouldn't be offering the fare. This is a desperation move to get some more butts on board.

Pride of America is the problem child of the fleet. It has a primarily American crew, thus the work ethic suffers vs the rest of the ships with foreign crews.

Do you have a passport What country is it from? The thought of needing a Canadian visa is ridiculous as this doesn't go to Canada. You shouldn't need any visas for any of these ports of call on a passport from most countries.
Kryx said: Great deal, Norwegian is one of the best cruise lines out there. Green for OP.
According to who?
I'll preface this by saying that I've never done a Norwegian cruise. I've done Royal, Carnival and Princess. My travel agent wouldn't even book Norwegian because of all the complaints she had gotten in the past. If you look at the various websites-- Vacations To Go, etc., you'll see the Norwegian is always the cheapest. I would think that there's a reason for that.
Please do research. CruiseCritic.com is a great site for tons of information, reviews, etc. For those that have done Norwegian as well as other cruise lines, I'd love to hear your thoughts / comparison.
gtalum said: A lot of people are put off by "Freestyle", and the whole Pride of America fiasco has hurt their image. Overall I think they're a great line, though.I generally would not book NCL again, but even I would go for this price. I didn't have a problem with most of the employees, they were ok. It was the hassle of NOT being able to eat where and when you wanted without serious advanced planning.
Of course it wouldn't be as nice as our 12 night Mediterranean cruise on Celebrity this summer (or even our other cruises on RCI), but that cost a lot more (although it was a still a great deal, relatively speaking).
We have done Carnival and NCL and I will pick NCL "freestyle" anyday. On Carnival, after 3rd day, we were tired of people we were sharing our dinner table with (as there was nothing more left to discuss with them). Given that we had 60% of the table, I am sure they hated it even more than we did - but even we found them like an intrusion on our dinner table. No offence to anyone but I am sure even prisons don't require you to sit at the same table at a specific time everyday.
I think the assigned sitting/time on a cruiseline is an idea whose time is long GONE.
I think the assigned sitting/time on a cruiseline is an idea whose time is long GONE.Although I feel the same way as you re: sharing a table with strangers (and worse yet, the same strangers every day), many cruisers love the social aspect of the shared table/assigned time format. Many feel very strongly about this, regardless of which side of the fence they are on. IMO, this is why you see many cruiselines offering both options by phasing in variations of the NCL "freestyle" dining.
I vacillate whether I like fixed seating or freestyle better. On a cruise I went on in May on Carnival, my daughter and I had fixed. We met a cool pair of guys from Australia and a nice mother and daughter. On the cruise my wife and I went on in September on NCL, we enjoyed the freestyle, although we did meet another couple around our age and had dinner with them most nights.
The thing I like about freestyle is you go when you want. We always requested a table by the back window and once we had to wait 15 minutes for one. On the fixed seatings, the wait staff get to know just how you like things and what you want to drink with your meal. I like the camaraderie you develop over a 7 day period with the waitstaff on fixed seating. I did run into a couple on our September cruise that actually asked for the same wait staff each night for dinner. Overall, I think the service tends to be better on fixed dining.
I think of cruises like a bumper sticker I've seen before. "A bad day fishing beats a good day at work". I've revised it to, "A bad day cruising is better than a good day at work". I'm often asked which is my favorite ship and my answer is always, "The one I'm on right now". Although in reality the SS Norway was my favorite for the historical value. But that ship is in the ship graveyard now.

but you should never have a bad day of cruising...

On our last cruise, Celebrity messed up and put us at a table for 8 and the other people were a mother, her son and his girlfriend. We had a great time, the girl was around my daughter's age, my wife and the mother got along great, and we toured some of the ports together. Oh yeah, and it was right next to the big windows in the back of the dining room (which was the rear of the ship). I could not have asked for a better table had they asked.
That said, Celebrity and RCI are now offering anytime dining, as an option.
Also, many people like having the same wait staff for the entire cruise. A good waiter can really make your cruise enjoyable. And when the assistant waiter figures out that you want iced tea every night and has it waiting at your seat, that is a nice touch.
My problem with NCL is that their dining room food did not seem to be very good. And getting decent reservations at the specialty restaurants (where the food was better) was difficult. I could live with a 15 minute wait to eat in the main dining room if I got food that was comparable to the other lines.
wow! Thanks to the last 4-5 posters for their favorable and non favorable comments concerning dinner arrangements. Certainly some points to take in consideration when planning. Thanks. Never been on a cruise (yet) - but am looking forward to one someday.
