Do you guys think this is a hot deal? I need a desktop...

Not sure if it's a hot deal, but it's certainly not a bad deal. Processor alone goes for $160 on the egg. Might want to figure out if you really need a quad core, and if it comes with windows 7 upgrade. If you're not in such a hurry, i might wait a lil longer to see if anything better comes up leading up to black friday. Just a couple days ago, we had a Lenovo desktop for 270 that was pretty good, but sold out pretty quickly.
*edit* I think it's free shipping if you choose ground shipping. On the main page, it lists free shipping on web orders over $99.
Received mine from PC Connection via UPS today. I ordered it online Sunday. It is brand new (acer branded tape) and appears to have arrived in excellent condition. No loose parts rattling around. The box had only a small crimp on one corner. I opened the case to make sure all installed parts were still well mounted, which they were.
It came with: - a standard keyboard and mouse, - quick reference foldout - Label Flash users guide (CD light scribe software) - Warranty leaflet That's it. No re-install CDs at all with this unit. Is that normal???
It does qualify for a free Windows 7 upgrade, but it doesn't come with the order. I'll have to order it from Acer here
For those who would like a closer look I've taken some photos.
Motherboard model tag The motherboard is an ECS G45T series board apparently made exclusively for PC makers as the model shows G45T-AM2. They retail a model G45T-M2 which is pretty similar. Here it is at Newegg
Memory label 2 2GB memory modules leaving 2 available memory slots. The brand is Unifosa.
Hard drive label Seagate 7200.12 ST3750528AS 750GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s. Here it is at Newegg
Haven't cranked it up yet.

Does the video card have a HMDI port?

the rear shot doesn't match the board that you reference on Newegg ECS G45T-M2. Your board has an PCI-e video card with DVI output, but the Newegg mobo has an DVI port right on the board itself.
There is no video card. It has an onboard Intel GMA X4500HD graphics processor. There is a DVI card in the PCIe slot, but it sources off the onboard video.
This deal is still alive. Really not bad for $388 with Fatwallet CB and free shipping (tax in some states). Acer doesn't charge any P&H for the Windows 7 64 bit upgrade order. You just go to their site and enter the PC's serial number and your address info.
You mention no restore disks. You burn them yourself at first boot.
I had an amd acer a few years ago, similar to this. Acer makes very nice systems. Off the shelf components, nice case, no cheap stuff. This system is cheaper than buying the parts yourself and putting it together by about $150-200 when you factor in the cost of an OEM copy of Win 7 home premium 64-bit. The bios likely won't allow overclocking this though.

Thanks. I'm getting ready to give it its first run now so I'll have some blank CDs ready. I'll try to nose around the bios (if the included USB keyboard allows) and see what's there for possible overclocking.
BigMike497 said: Please let me know your initial impression on how it runs and the windows experience rating as well. I am close to getting this item.
So far very nice. I turned it on for the first time and thought it was broke because it was soooo quiet, but it was running fine.
The initial setup is taking about two hours. I'm making system recovery DVDs now which takes 3 DVDs (or many more CDs). That seems to be the last step after Vista completed its install and is optional. I'm new to Vista so it is a whole new OS experience, but it sure is pretty compared to XP (I have 6 XP Home systems). I finally have Media Center! Wooo Hooo!
In a couple of weeks I'll have to get used to Windows 7. Oh my!

So is there a way to watch in hi-def video files recorded by hi-def camcorders?

Thanks for the info. about the DVI output. I finally figure out that I can get a DVI to HDMI cable to connect to a HDTV.

Looks like a pretty good deal... any chance the BIOS & motherboard support overclocking at all? (Changing the FSB speed)?

Not with the supplied bios version (R01-A1). I browsed through the bios setting options last night.
Under "Frequency / Voltage Control" you only have these controls/options: - Auto Detect DIMM/PCI Clock: ENABLE / Disable - Spread Spectrum: ENABLE / Disable
Just an FYI. The PSU is a standard fit with standard screw mounts for easy swapping. You have 10 1/4 inches of PCIe video card space before you hit the drive bay rack. There is an unused USB connector on the mobo.

The only down side about this unit is that it can't run virtual XP mode given that you have a Windows 7 Pro. Thank you for the info. Your postings are very helpful.

NuttyBuddy2, does the power supply have an extra cable for a different, newer video card?
Just want to say THANX for the awesome post you made with pics!
Out of all the desktop deals I've seen over the last 2 weeks, this is probably THE BEST bang for the buck.

You're most welcome.
The included power supply is quite limited in power connectors: - 24 pin mobo - 4 pin processor - 2 pairs of sata (1 free on each cable set) - 1 standard 4 pin molex (powering the front "Aspire" light via extension adapter so essentially it's free) at the end of one sata set - 1 mini molex (free) at the end of the other sata set That's it
Between the lack of a video power connection and the 300w power supply, you'll have to stick with a lower end pci express card that uses the power from the pcie slot.
That'll keep you to a 4500 or 4600 series ATI card. Better also put a kill-a-watt on the desktop to see what the peak watt usage is before you buy a card so you know how much card you can put in. 43xx series uses pretty low watts, not much more than the integrated. 4500 series might be okay. 4600 series would definitely be pushing the 300w. You'll have about 50-60 watts from a 4650/4670.
If you just want HDMI and blu ray hardware decode, a fanless 3450 or 4350 for $20 will do the trick.
I heard that the Q8300 CPU made after July contained Virtualization support. Did the system/BIOS you got support VT?
Thanks!
Don't see it in the BIOS
Thanks for the reply! Have you had the chance to update the BIOS to R01.A2 (09/11/2009)? Do you mind running Securable (http://www.grc.com/securable.htm) to check the status?

Got a link for the BIOS revision? I did an Acer system check and it came back with no available updates.

I see no visible difference in BIOS options between R01-A1 and R01-A2
Securable returns: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU / Q8300 @ 2.50 GHz Maximum Bit Length: 64 Hardware D.E.P.: Yes Hardware Virtualization: No

Thanks a lot for the info! This would be an even better deal if VT-x was supported.
I was thinking of buying it but was holding off to see what appears on Black Friday and/or Cyber Monday. Oh well, have to keep telling myself there is always another deal.
