Picked up two of these yesterday, seemed like a good deal on a decent laptop. Think I'll hold off on opening it for now and see what other deals pop up in the coming weeks. Price at OD.com is $700, not sure if they match clearance prices to BM, but it could be another 10% from Bing. Office Depot
I'm sensing a hot deal.... But the AS4810 model is available with so many different CPUs It is easy to make a mistake and purchase a very slow Acer AS4810 notebook.
The SU3500 is a decent Single Core. Its a no-brainer to buy at $379 Perfectly adequate for 90% of computer users.
Intel ULV processors as listed via PassMark Performance: SU9400 Passmark score = 923 SU7300 Passmark score = 890 SU4100 Passmark score = 840 SU2300 Passmark score = 750 SU3500 Passmark score = 490 single core SU2700 Passmark score = 403 single core Athlon L110 Passmark score = 299 single core Atom N270 Passmark score = 229
Agreed. Bought this for my wife who easily fits into that 90% of users, so I'm pretty sure I'll keep at least one of these. Its a nice computer with many attributes, just seems there are a lot of laptops with more bang for the buck in the sub $400 category.

Oh, and keep in mind this does qualify for the free win7 upgrade.
Add to cart, enter zipcode? Oh ok, I wasn't sure if that was actually checking store inventory or just some OD.com regional warehouse or something. In that case, it looks like it's not available in my area (SF Bay Area). Too bad.

Like yus9 said, these laptops come with so many different CPUs. I'd like to get the fastest. Can anyone weigh in on what is the *best* CPU available for the Timeline 14" or 15" models? I haven't seen one of these with a SU9400 or SU7300 out there, but maybe some other FWers have...
Specs: * Intel® Core™ 2 Solo Ultra-low voltage Processor SU3500 * 4GB installed memory * 320GB hard drive * 8X DVD-Super Multi Double-Layer Drive * 14" HD Acer CineCrystal™ LED-backlit Display * 5-in-1 Digital Media Card Reader * Intel® WiFi Link 5100 802.11a/g/Draft-N * Integrated Acer Crystal Eye Webcam * Dimensions 13.3"W x 9.4"D x 1.1"H (4.2lbs) * 6-cell Li-ion Battery (up to 8hrs) * Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit) * 1 year warranty Eligible for FREE Windows 7 upgrade
Looks like, out of the box, these laptops have had a few problems, but the windows 7 upgrade corrects all of that (driver updates, flash bios). Anyone have any experience?
The following CULV processors are all dual-core: SU2300 SU4100 SU7300 SU9400
Those are from slowest to fastest, though I don't know how big a difference there is. They also vary by cache and certain features (like virtualization capabilities).
Good price. I have the su3500 single core version for a about 2 months, still on vista but set for performance, registered buy not yet received win7 upgrade supposed to get. all junk off machine. video and lan driver updated to work properly.
Not a gamer at all, use gimp and open office... I use freeware to maintain pc regularly.
It runs everything well, many multiple windows, dvd Netflix... well. much faster wifi than old laptop.
Runs hulu and youtube ok, but do get some flutter and slowness. only problem I have found in performance.
hdmi etc work well, sound good through headphones and external speakers, weak through pc speakers. If you need to run flash based type hd video to be happy you may want the dual core.
It will run on top performance high use 6 hours or more, 8 or more with care and less intensive use, think its a great deal under 400.

Wanted that one, 14"/better specs, but none in Atlanta metro. Got the crappier MSI, still wayyy better than my sloooow Dell mini which basically good only for cell phone replacement

Hmm...not sure what makes the MSI crappier: it's faster with a 3 year warranty and seems to have at least as good build quality. Personally, I was holding out for a deal on a dual core Timeline around $400-450, but the MSI at $350 is too good to pass up.
MSI is good, but one flaw in their design with headphone jack...I bought two MSI A6000 at Office Depot for $450 when it was on sale, but I had to return them and they gave me a refund because they think it's OEM defected. You can heard bleeded over noises and static as soon as Windons 7 is loading...you can clearly heard the noises when you've the headphone plug-in. Not sure anyone had experience the same issue.
Don't know...the four stores closest to me (Columbia, SC) all had it at $379.92. First saw it at $499.91 a couple of weeks ago, but I wasn't even tempted at that price. I think all the Vista machines were on clearance. I know there was an HP G70 for $519.91 after rebate and HP DV4 for $597.91 also after rebate...mostly just empty shelves when I went back the second time.
