Sounds pretty hot!
Does anyone have experience running any flavor of linux on this beast?

isnt there some way to sweeten this?

Like I thought I saw a 10-20% off BB coupon thread in the last couple days (20% was only on appliances but I didnt look at the 10%)
Also I think paypal was recently offering 20 dollars Cash Back on a 100 dollar BB purchase....

Having trouble finding details on these "sweeteners" though (cant find the 10-20% off thread and the link to bestbuy on the paypal website wasnt working for me..)

the coupon won't apply and paypal ended last week

The BB coupon does not work on laptops and the PayPal promo is dead.

decent deal but not a "hot" one.. $400 is the going prices for this type of notebook.

well Id go for the HP, its only $30 more and you get a 2.1 ghz T4300 proc and 4GB of RAM (but you could always bupgrade the RAM later on the gateway if you wanted to for under $30)

Lets come together and not buy these kind of laptops at these price. These manufacturers have D2Core processors, quad, i7 and god knows whats the latest, but still try to dump the old shitty processors, so after 2 months you are left with regret as why the hell you paid that price.

Does D2C, quad, i7, require more silicon to produce ? Are they specially made by hand or something ? why the hack they dont stop making these 6 year old celerons and pentium and only produce latest ones.

Do you have an alternative to suggest?

?????????????????????????????..... not a hot deal. definitely good for the average joe who shops for laptops without any research, but honestly should not be on fatwallet. This should not be more than $350... esp for the G60 series low end laptops

I'm still not understanding. Where is a comparable laptop priced at $350?

Maybe $350 if it had a celeron processor and half the RAM, and WinVista. Or it was a MINI.
Doing a search shows the price for the G60 series runs up to $500 at most the big name stores. Of course it may be in the $350 range refurbished or off eBay.

If you know where to get comparible laptop then please share.

Would be good if it had the 4500MHD -- instead of the 4500M.

I believe you can also get 3% back currently on Best Buy purchases if you are on Bank of Americas Add It Up program and go through that.

Well, individuals would not have much alternatives but collectively we can teach them a lesson.

Like the medicine which GM and Ford and Chrysler got. Now don't get me wrong on American vs chinese thing. Its not that.

My say is , that those manufacturers who try to sell obsolete stuff at higher price should not be rewarded. Dont buy their stuff. Give chance to new company who want to innovate give you more value to your money and are ready to survive on less profit. Go With the Companys who's CEO are less greedy. I have always seen that Dell/Lenovo/HP usually with same configurations are always $100 or 200$ more. Even their accessories they Sell for more. Why is that when every thing is made in china, then emachine/acer/asus/msi etc are able to sell the same config for less ?

On top these intels and Amds keep coming out with 100 different processors with just some tiny bit change and screw up the prices for all. Example Within Celeron , they have so many types, i.e. the 900 and dual core etc.

One way is to buy and return. I know its bad , but then they need to realize that the trick their marketing dept does, will not be acceptable by people

Good plan except for the stocking fee and/or the return shipping costs

Just want to state that I was misquoted here

Changed!!! Sorry!

This laptop was on sale last week and now sold out in my area. I had seen one return and Best Buy loves to repackage it with Best Buy Security tap making it look official. User had reported sound in the WebCam was faulty, but that was a driver issue. Uninstall the driver and grab the one off HP site for it and your done! Still the unit doesn't have wireless 801.11n, nor does it have 10/100/1000 for the wired LAN. RAM maxes out at 4GB which is comes with. It does have everything else. CPU is slower for a dual core. It's a huge laptop, just a a step above basic. For the same price you can get Compaq it has Vista on it but Best Buy will install for no charge Windows 7 Prem 64-bit and the laptop max out in RAM to 8GB they have that for $449 suppose to go down to $400 and they have limited stock on hand.

I'm sorry, I'm having a hard time understanding your post. Best Buy will upgrade laptops to Windows 7?

Yes all Vista Laptops that have Vista on them will be upgraded for free with Windows 7. You buy the laptop and pick it up the next day with Windows 7 installed on it. If the laptop is 64-bit CPU you'll get Win 7 64-bit OS on it.
