NOTE: back in stock and price dropped back down to $1/battery as of Thursday, 11:08 AM Eastern time

"Mybatterysupplier" at Amazon.com has "Rayovac 4.0" AA NIMH batteries, 2.1 amp hour. 8 pack for $7.99 delivered.

*free shipping

*no tax

These are 2.1 amp hour batteries, and from the tests online I've read, they hold between 78% and 83% charge after 6 months in storage. I own the previous generation of battery, which was known as a "hybrid" battery. These are low self discharge batteries, which have circuitry inside that help them keep their charge longer.

This makes all the difference in the world for me. Previously, with NIMH batteries, I would get my digital camera out after a month or so, and the batteries would be dead, or nearly depleted. Now, the camera is always ready to go, even after a couple of months in storage.

I decided to do something environmental, and bought 160 of these batteries to give out as gifts this year.

Deceptive lithium advertising according to the review:
http://www.amazon.com/review/R3D9UYWV3B7I3M

However, $8 shipped is a great price for 8 AA LSD batteries.

In for 3 packs based on Amazon review that tested these at just under 2100 mAh after a couple cycles.

They also have the AAA 2 x 4 packs for 9.99 FS

http://www.amazon.com/Rayovac-4-0-AAA-4-PACK-Pack/dp/B002M3TLFI

I just got one each of the AA and AAA from one of the other Amazon users (Ultra Sonic) which were 3.74 and 5.95 for AA and AAA with 6.48 for shipping (so, $16.17 total). I'm going to have to give them a couple of uses before I can verify how good they are but if the reviews are correct, that's one heck of a deal for batteries that compare favorably (worse, but not by much) to Eneloops at half the price.

Now if only my BC-9009 would hurry up and get here so I could do some real tests.

SI

Where does it say anything about LSD or make claims to the slow self discharge?

The "Ready-to-use" labeling strongly indicates that they are either 1) low discharge or 2) charged and packed on a per customer order.
I would bet money on (1).

Thanks, and thanks to OP.

Doh! I just spent $17 2 weeks ago for the old "Rayovac Rechargeable Hybrid Batteries, AAA-size, 4-count Carded Pack (Pack of 2)"

Thanks op, order a set of 2. Do these work with all NIMH chargers?

Eh, at half the price of eneloops, I'll give these a try - needed to order some more AAA's anyway. Thanks OP.

FatGuyOrg said: Thanks op, order a set of 2. Do these work with all NIMH chargers?

Yes, BUT the sayno FAQ for their low self discharge NiMH batteries warns against using rapid chargers as they reduce the life time of the battery. IIRC "rapid" was anything 2 hours or less. Lacross chargers may be a special case if correctly configured.

Since these things hold their charge well, just get a few spares and use a slow (overnight) charger.

This reviewer makes great points. Everyone should let Rayovac know what you think about their deceptive packaging, and to change their wrapper to look less like the Energizer lithium.

Same here. My dect Pana phones needed some batteries. Thanks OP.

Can someone recommend a good charger?

i use the hybrids (this is basically same product in newer 4.0 packaging) in my harmony remote, xbox and wii controllers and will never go back to regular NiMH.

good deal. Perfect for Wii. in 4 1.

I ordered from the same seller. I hope I won't receive non-rechargeable batteries, in case these sellers misplaced their item. Just in case, I printed both pages to pdf to dispute.

On a side note, I can't find a mention of these batteries on the rayovac website, I could only find the hybrid ones mentioned... kind of strange.

$9.99 now

What a jerk. I hate it when sellers see the FW effect and raise their prices.

I believe that not only FW but as this info spreads all over internet and they see a surge in sales they revert back to higher prices

Actually you can get it much cheaper from this seller (UltraSonic) as others mentioned above:

The price is $3.47 + 4.49 shipping = $8.23 for 8 batteries.

If you buy 2, then price is 2 x $3.47 + $6.48 shipping = $13.42 for 16 batteries.
*** that's only $6.71 for 8 batteries ***

The more you buy the cheaper it will get.

And the effect from dozens of other bargain sites. I hate i missed them too but from the vendor's perspective maybe they needed to shift a fixed quantity of inventory or they were able to buy a set quantity at a special price and once they were gone that's it. However, the mark-up on batteries is pretty steep IIRC

In for 3. Six packs total, 24 batteries. I love the previous generation ones, I needed these for my external flashes. $19.69 shipped- very nice!

The price is $10.44 for 8 batteries. Where do you get $8.23?

The price went up for the 2nd seller now. Prices going up across the board...the Amazon way!

I keep getting 9.99 when I click the links

ivanjenn said: I keep getting 9.99 when I click the links

That's because all of the sellers have now jacked the prices. The original link now with $9.99 with FREE shipping is still a decent deal if these are truly 2,100 mAh LSD batteries.

Anyone know how well these work compared to Eneloops? I bought some Duracell precharged/hybrid/LSD AA's and I think they are just some re-packaged standard 2100mAh NiMH batteries they pulled out of their inventory from circa 2002 - I need to recharge them every three or four weeks or so in a remote that only gets used a few times a month. Hopefully these Rayovacs are better than the Duracells.

I've read some reviews online that say you get 85% of the eneloop performance for 40% of the eneloop price.

I would highly suggest using a trickle charger though - the "fast charger" I have gets the batteries so hot that they are hard to hold in your hand. I can only imagine that the high heat must decrease the longevity somewhat. I certainly don't mind charging overnight, and using a slow charger only gets them slightly warm.

I got a shipping notice yesterday, so hopefully I'll see the batteries in a few days. I'll finally have enough to have a set in my camera, a spare set in the camera bag, and another spare set or two always charged.

Back in stock now. $8 for 8xAA. $10 for 8xAAA.

I received mine yesterday. Opened one AA pack and they tested at 1.29v and had approximately 1500mAh charge left. I am refreshing right now, may take a couple of days or more to finish.

Found them even cheaper: $6.13 per double 4 pack (8 batteries)

http://www.amazon.com/Rayovac-4-0-AA-4-PACK-Pack/dp/B002M3TLDK/r...

Adorama camera has them for 77c each, or $6.13 with free shipping for 8
remember, these are rechargeable LSD (low self discharge) NIMH batteries.

This is getting so cheap, I'm pretty sure I've paid more for plain old alkalines!

Adorama is sold out.

Back in stock at $3.99 AA 4pk and $5.49 AAA 4pk + FS.

In for 1 pack....Have not bought new rechargeables in 4-5 years so it will be interesting to see how much better they perform Thanks OP

Just thought will update with what I promised. The AA's averaged at about 2500mAh. This is for 3 of them right after a discharge cycle, and one after refresh. Two of the AAA's measured a capacity of about 950mAh where as the other two above 1450mAh.

Looks like the deal is dead. There appears to be a $5 shipping charge per pack of batteries.

$7.26 now for 8
