gemsurf said: How did you navigate to this OP? I have logged into aafes and gone to the Dell store but can't find this listed for this price? Thanks It's not listed for $588. It's listed at $1,189.00 Navigate too Studio XPS9000 Go thru all the components and subtract $150 for memory, $100 for lower harddrive, $250 for no monitor...
Easiest way is CTRL+F the page and look for "subt"
You can still get it for $588, just need to change the 3 year warranty to 2 year, in addition to changing everything else you can.
You can get this from Dell for $1048 ($899 if you downgrade the warranty to 1 year) plus tax. Aafes saves you about $350 or so...not a bad deal...if you have Aafes priveledges.

Awesome deal for those who can get it. I'm not trying to be a pessimist, but I predict that the deal won't last long. Usually these ultra good deals from Dell involve allowing you to subtract more items than they really intend for you to. I suggest that if you want in on this deal that you do it soon, then keep your fingers crossed.

And on this note. You can add the item to you aafes shopping cart and it'll stay there untouched for 5 days even if Dell decides to change the price
After some procrastinating hoping this would go away, I decided to buy it. $529.46 for me shipped. Said expected shipdate was 12/05/09. I just need a good deal on a monitor to roll around since I'm going to be starting fresh.
The upgrades from Dell were pretty expensive. I'll piece parts over time from FW deals The base machine will be good enough to get me through the holidays.

I agree with this but only partialy. I my case I have delt with hundreds of Dell products and never had to use their warranty. Usualy if your device, pc did nto brak within the first year, it would probably last you 5. If you have a tech gadged for 5 years, most likely you need to replace it
2 years is plenty on a desktop. I don't expect to have this thing 2 years down the road.
There should be a phone to call AAFES on the login page. I had to reset my login because I forgot it and haven't shopped online with them in years. They had a bunch of options about orders to choose from. Give it a try.

HiAll,
I would like to know also, any experts out there. I would like to use the system for 3D CAD design. Which one is better ATI or nVidia? Any other good upgrades?

Thx in advanceAny of the video cards listed will do great in CAD. Rendering will be more of a processor intense job so doesn't matter there. You may get a little lag on the slower cards if you have a high detail drawing and you are trying to move around quickly.
...my $.02

Must resist!! There is no HDMI port and no onboard video. so you get two DVI ports with the 4350 according to ZD site.
Are you sure on the HDMI ports? When I look an Dell.com I see this: Rear Ports IEEE 1394a RJ45 10/100/1000 Network port Line-in connector Front L/R line-out connector Back L/R surround connector Side L/R surround connector Center/subwoofer connector Microphone connector USB 2.0 (4) eSATA S/PDIF connector HDMI ports
I could not find memory for this machine cheap anywhere so I just went with Crucial.com that way I knew it would work. Almost $200 for 6GB with tax and shipping. No problems with internet connection or anything else, very fast machine.
