While it is true that this is the older version w/ no network connection, I wouldn't call it junk. These are great gifts for the technologically challenged in the family. Just connect....no fuss, no muss.
This is a steal for 50 bucks if you don't need networking and DTS downmixing support. WD is still supporting this model with current firmware updates. (about 7 to date)
Third party firmware allows use of networking if you're a geek.
You can buy $25 off $75 from e junkie here is the statistics WDTV HD MEDIA PLAYER 89.90 - Instant discount 15.00 Total 74.90 You have to add something to your order to make it $75 then only the coupon $25 off $75 will be applied.
Just a little too slow myself. Placed the order and didn't notice it had dropped out of my cart because the total was right. Got the confirmation and only my filler items were there along with a $9.95 shipping. Called quickly to cancel. Thanks anyway OP. The fact that this went OOS so quickly is proof that it was a great deal.
lucky777 said: It supports network with hacked firmware and USB LAN adapter from post #2Network support on the WDTV ver1 is weak. Transfers are dog slow and struggle to play 720p material. Forget 1080p over the USB adapter.
