Be sure to add the receiver and dock that are sold by Amazon.
Currently the only way I found to locate the Ipod dock sold by Amazon is to click on the "11 new", then go down the list and add the dock sold by Amazon.
Two other added offers by Amazon. Purchase $75 worth of select electronics products shipped and sold by Amazon.com, and you can get a 1-year subscription to Wired Magazine included with your purchase (a $10.00 value).
Get $5 worth of MP3 downloads from Amazon MP3 when your order ships.
if you're keeping this in a small enclosed area, be aware of heat. onkyo seems to run hotter than denon and a couple others in this class.

This is the best deal so far this year. ordered the combo, not sure how much of a use the doc is for music because you can always feed output of any audio source to the receiver using RCA cables. also using remote apparently you can not navigate to playlists once you start playing tracks. So i guess the main use of doc would be for pics and videos. Will decide later if i should use it or sell on eBay for $50. In any case 607 under $300 is an excellent deal.
Agree with mrredskin, but that's because of the powerful amplifier onkyo uses to generate high current which is better than other brands using high voltage to pump up power ratings. the powerful amplifier also makes it heavier which is why pro's don't like light receivers.
Remember shipping on this item is 1 to 2 months, so don't be surprised if it doesn't arrive this year.
Make sure you add both the items sold by Amazon itself, promotion does not apply for other vendors selling thru Amazon.
update Dec 1:my receiver has been shipped and i've been charged $275, so i cancelled the iPod dock.

how are you doing?
I bought sr 607 too have no speakers yet
guys, suggestions?
hell yeah, man. just hit 20k on mine. all my speakers are from the Energy RC line. you can get bookshelves for $150 each and surrounds for $100 each through Vanns. only issue now is finding a matching center, since those i listed are all cherry color. just browse through AVSforum.com. guys there should be able to help you more.

I ordered this earlier when I saw it on SD. Thanks for putting the "from Amazon" part in bold and underlining it. There's about a dozen posts on SD complaining that it doesn't work because the fools keep adding the dock from other sellers.

The Energy Take 5 set is $180 at Newegg and gets great reviews, that's what I'll probably get after the end of the year. No idea on a sub though.

techrk and others: odds are you can take a screenshot or printout of what this price was to vann's or other sites and get them to PM. i know i haggled with vann's and electronics-expo (altho their CS is shady) every time i ordered to get them to come down on something when i pieced together my home theater. they just have to be an authorized retailer.
I was able to get onto the deal yesterday night. However, reading various reviews it seems the receiver runs hot. Any one has first hand info on that?

mrkk, few months ago i bought energy take classic 5 for $175 from Vanns and 10" energy sub for $200. the combination is "spectacular". if you plan to buy from Vanns.com call them and tell them deals keep coming for $25-$50 less, the rep can give you further discount. If you don't want a $200 sub you can get an 8" Polk Audio sub for $99. if you can afford the RC Micros even better but look into Energy seriously.
If you have to wait and dont care about the ipod dock, Newegg is selling the sr607 for $380 and starting tomorrow at 3pm PST Newegg bing will be 10% until funds run out, Newegg says. That would make it $342 after bing CashBack.
I went with the Onkyo HTRC-160 from PC Richard & Son last week. $338 with free iPod dock. I got $55 shipped for the iPod dock on eBay, so my net was $280.
The HTRC-160 is a near twin of the 607, except: no Siruis radio support, no front HDMI port, 10 watts per channel less. The receiver runs warm rather than hot. THe internals are the same as the 607, so it's possible that the 160 doesn't run as hot due to less current being pumped through the amp.
Overal impressions:
Audio is outstanding. Good feature set, easy to set up and use.
Video is far less impressive. Fine for straight HDMI pass through, but there is noticable degredation of quality in analog to digital video conversion. I'm feeding output from an LG BD370 and a DIrect TV HD DVR box to the Onkyo. If I feed it via HDMI, quality is excellent. If I feed the Onkyo via component video from DirectTV, there is noticiable softness added to the image. If I feed it component video via the LG BD370, the picture is jittery, to the point of being unwatchable. Unfortunately, the receiver only overlays display of volume and input information onto analog input signals, so I am left with a choice of either good picture quality, or overlay display functionality. A sad choice, as my receiver is not visible from the seating position in my home theater, and that means volume level display overlay is very desirable.
With the exception of the analog video conversion performance, I like everything about the receiver.

was able to cancel ipod dock due to it not being available until after christmas. Got the 607 receiver shipped for 275.90. Best deal by far running on this receiver.

I did the same after receiving email that receiver is shipped and i was billed $275.I called and Amazon confirmed the price for Receiver won't change because of dock cancellation.
I really don't think such a "connector/converter" is worth $75 unless you are big time into iPod videos. You can always output your iPod music to receiver using a 3.5mm to RCA cable.

1 end goes into the headphone jack of mp3 player and other goes into receiver.
Also this iPod dock works only with the 2009 receivers.

I agree. I'd probably pay 20 or so for the ipod connector but that's all its worth to me especially since as you mentioned there are other ways around it. Super happy with the 276 deal on the receiver. It does run pretty warm but not too much of an issue to me.

i am waiting on my 607 & Polk TSi100s + PSW10 sub & CS10 center speaker, hopefully they sound good, the TSi100s just rocked when I heard them at Frys, hopefully the PSW10 subwoofer should hold me out for the short term. Still need to buy the rear surrounds.
Great idea about canceling the ipod dock. My box came yesterday delivered by FedEx water soaked. Replacement is already on it's way. FedEx again. I have to return the damaged one UPS.
The replacement box looked good. After opening it on Christmas I found it had a dent in the upper of the unit. And the unit is DOA. Amazon will refund the unit, but I can't buy it anywhere else for that low of a price.
I just called CS on the phone and spoke to a person. It seems Amazon doesn't like sending a customer more than one replacement. I explained the first one I received was a shipping problem not Onkyo's, Amazon's or mine. CSR agreed and is shipping a new replacement Next Day Air. Way to go Amazon!
