Panasonic VIERA 50" 720p 600Hz Plasma HDTV TC-P50X1 is currently available at Newegg.com for $699.99 with free shipping and no tax in my state of KS (although YMMV) minus 2% Bing CashBack, total cost is a paltry $685.99! Linky

Nope that would the TC-P50C1...not the same one. The X1 is a notch above the C1.

More than likely you just bought the older P50C1, since that's the one BB has on special. The newer X1 has a 30,000:1 native contrast ratio, vs. 15,000:1 for the older C1 as well as a few other improvements.

You could have gotten this from Dell up through yesterday for $70-80 cheaper, but thats dead now. Looks like this is about the best available at the moment. Added to the panasonic plasma deal discussion thread here: Text
The Dell price was $669 minus 5% Bing CashBack + sales tax which for me was in the region of $48 making a grand total of $683.55, so not much difference in price compared to Newegg!
Thanks for the notice guys. I'm thinking about getting this X1 now.. besides the contrast, does the anti glare on the X1 that much better then C1? I'm reading horror stories about glares on Plasmas everywhere.

You couldnt have gotten this TV yesterday. I ordered a week ago through Dell. At the time it was $669.00 minus the 10% Discover made it $603 before tax. Which was the best deal on this TV yet. The only problem.... Dell has ran out of stock, and is not going to fill my order for the TV.

How are these TVs with burn ins. I have 42" panasonic and I am fine with it using as my TV with HTPC. I have been told repeadtedly that I shouldnt use plasmas as monitors because of burn-in. Is that still a factor on this specific TV?

You should burn in your plasma with this for 120 hours
burn in is not image retention. Burn is permanant and will occur if you have not broke in your set properly (EG: played a video game for the first 100+ hours of your plasmas life - this is when the phosphers are still new, and kept a static number or image on the screen for that perios). A burn will be there for the rest of the plasmas life, however if you break it in then the features and tech will limit the screen to only Image Retention. IR is reversable simply by wathcing another program that fills the screen to warm up the unused pixels.

Thank you, ComeOnNow, for that helpful explanation. All of these techno terms and rampant use of acronyms are mind boggling for those like me who are trying to be educated consumers.
