Wow.. HOT deal, just placed an order with free 2 day shipping(prime trial)

This would be excellent for a low power usage HTPC that can still play pretty much anything out there (especially once Adobe officially rolls out GPU acceleration for flash, as currently this processor struggles playing HD hulu or youtube videos).

wow great deals kills the Newegg deal on the single core without psu

Great deal! I'm trying real hard to think what I need this for

I already have a different Atom setup for a Windows home server..

are mini-itx cases as inexpensive as microatx? cause othen than smaller form factor, i am sure we can get better cpu/mb/vid for this price in microatz form factor. if someone knows a nice mini-itx case for this pls post here

Found this thread with google, http://forums.gbpvr.com/showthread.php?p=350398

"As for actual power consumption, my Zotac IONITX-D-E build consumes 24W idle while the Intel D945GCLF2 consumes 28W measured from the wall using a Kill-A-Watt. Same case, same PSU (high efficiency DC-DC board w/60W AC-DC adapter), Seagate Momentus 5400.4 320GB, no optical drive. The only difference is the Ion build has a 2 sticks of Kingston 2GB DDR2 800 SDRAM CL6 installed, instead of just one on the Intel build."

By this review http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=708&type=expert&pid=10
Zotac IONITX-A-U uses 34.5 /41.5 watt

This MBO comes with PSU brick. So a cookie tin box + Dermal will give your a tasty mini-ITX case, or a steel-mesh paper tray may be ok too.

really? wow, i didnt know such things existed. i think i can dig up an altoids tin box.

what else will i need with this? can anyone recommend parts? will it just be the following?

ddr2 ram
mini itx case.
win home premium (for the media center)
hard drive.

The only thing you may need is an optical drive. Some still want one, but these days it isn't an absolute necessity assuming you have the expertise to get around that.

Shame there isn't even a normal pci-e x1 slot on this thing, otherwise I would try it out to see if it has enough power for basic 8 channel audio processing. I'm surprised the thing idles at 24w as that's still quite a bit. I assume the chipset is at fault as Atoms idle at next to nothing, the hdd would be ~1w idle and the memory would be ~5w for 2x2GB.

someone made a "Biscuit Tin PC"

if i put in a usb hdtv tuner it should handle it easily, correct?

Try the Apsire Revo, same thing but in a case with PSU, matching kbd and mouse. Was on sale for $179.99 two of the last three weekends at Fry's.

The 9400 IGP is probably the cause of the higher power consumption but with higher performance watt for watt...

I was looking for a really cheap case but hats off to this guy!

Here are more ITX boxes. Basically, you might fit the ITX into anything your can image.

yup. that does seem like the perfect case for this board. looks like i finally may have an excuse to bring out the new dremel i have stashed away for years.

GREAT DEAL!!!!!! ( specially, if you have spare parts around and extra OS )

I almost bought one from Newegg 2 weeks ago, until I found out it cost about the same for me just get a Acer Revo Ar3610 which come with Windows 7, wireless keyboard, mouse, and all-in-one card reader for my photos.
( I don't have spare ram, OS or HD )

I bought this case for my HTPC 6 months ago for ~$180, great deal then, incredible deal now. It runs 1080p video, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2 (minimal settings), Aion (choppy), Photoshop CS4. Also using it as my bittorrent client and voip server. My only gripe is that it was hard finding a case for it. I ended up getting this case, removing the power supply and replacing it with a quiet fan.

If you're getting this for HD video, make sure you setup your software to make use of nVidia's CUDA tech which offloads video rendering to the GPU.

I was thinking of maybe getting the Revo for use as a HTPC, but decided that I would also need to purchase a NAS whereas building a small system with this Motherboard/CPU I can just plug the 2 drives in there (it also doesn't hurt that I have access to quite a few W7 keys).

anyone know someplace reliable to buy power & reset switch front-panel for this? if i add a usb/pci-e hdtv tuner and a 2.5" sata hd, i still wont need any fan for this?

A simple push button switch is all you need. You can salvage the connector to the motherboard from an old case. Maybe even use an old connector from a PC case speaker.

i see. thanks. so i can connect the switch to "salvaged" connector wires without any soldering required? i am looking for imported tin boxes already. this seems like a fun project.

Picked one up plus this awesome case:
http://www.mini-box.com/M350-universal-mini-itx-enclosure

I already have the RAM, drive and OS so this is a much cheaper alternative than picking up the Acer Revo 3610.

thanks ninjaman.

and nice case you picked sirfergy. it does seem a little drab after looking at that neatorama site linked earlier if i am not able to build the coolest case(s) on earth, i may fall back to the one you picked. just need to familiarise myself with the shiny dremel

Dang!! Out of stock already.

Dont' get me wrong, I meant to say it is a great deal!!! It is the cost of OS that killed my HDMI TV project .

I even had the case ready for it.
Well.. a dead Sony VHS VCR player, has all the wire, connect plate, power button you need.
I even had a DVD drive secure at the front. ( where used to be tape loading area )

ps. you guys definitely can get a used vhs vcr from your local craigslist for $10.

The best DVR is mythtv running the free Linux OS.

That case is SICK! Be sure to watch the slide show, boys and girls.

Thanks OP, in for one. Anybody have a suggestion for a tuner for this thing?

I think the best tuner would be hdhomerun

I might use old WebTV (MSN) case laying in some where.

shows $219 for me.

I do see Tiger direct without wifi for $89

Totally different animal. The Zotac has the Ion chipset which has much better graphics, not to mention HDMI and DVI. It can decode h.264 videos, which was a big selling point for me.

eWiz has it for $166.00 with coupon code BLACKFRIDAY Free Shipping

in many pics i see a HSF being used with similar setups. whats the deal with that? do we need to use one with this or its completely optional?

Fan is optional, unless you you overclock it. you can oc this mb via the bios, so it is a very easy thing to do. The hs is not optional and comes already attached. The fan is included in the package but is not attached.
