This is... AWESOME!

a month late? this is reflected everywhere . . . they are all on sale.

this has been going on for a month now. most retailers raised their prices to compensate for the rebates.

before the rebate started Amazon had the 17-40L for $707 in October. After the rebate started? $700. So the $50 IR became a $7 IR. Thanks Amazon!

The only decent retailer has been Newegg and the 70-200 f/2.8 IS. $150 rebate but they actually knocked that off. $1700 when most were selling it for 2k before the rebate started.

These deals might be sweet if they actually gave the full amount off, but it has just been a chance for retailers to put more money in their pockets.

oh, and the 24-70L was just over $1200 right before the rebate started. how much after it started? $1277!

I can't believe how many vendors increased their prices ahead of the rebates. Great rebate for the vendors, not for consumers. I wrote an email to this effect.

Actually, it is WAY worse than that.

There was a price increase from Canon at the beginning of October. Everyone basically accepted the fact that when the rebates started, they would be stuck paying just about what the prices were before the price increases.

Then the rebates came out. And literally the same day, retailers adjusted their pricing and increased prices again so that the rebate amount would be just under what their prices were the day before.

Retailers are literally the only ones benefiting from the rebates. It's absolutely disgusting.

So, are the retailers posing as consumers ( with retail receipts ) in order to claim these rebates ?

They are instant rebates.
