These have been around for a few years and are very popular with serious bicyclists. The unit has many features that really enhance your training. You can also add a heart rate monitor for about $30. Garmin has some newer models out now, but they are much more expensive ($400 and up).
Price is $189.99 with free shipping Costco charges a small surcharge if you are not a member
I have one and it's having the battery contact issue that quite a few other owners are having. Basically, running over a bump or a gap on the road/trail would cause the battery contacts to displace, turning your unit off. Perhaps they fixed this issue in the later versions.

I've owned one for 3 years and never had that problem. Use it on both my road bike and mountain bike. If yours is still under warranty, I would return it.

Hey Fatbaby,
I have a 305 and had the same issue with contact and the unit spontaneously shutting off. Called Garmin (my unit was 2.8 years old) and without even a question, they gave me a RMA, said to send it back, and I had a new (or like new refurb) unit back within 7 days or so. They are fixing this problem. This was my third unit as the first unit had problems finding a satillite and they replace that unit.
