Anybody know the difference between the two besides the 281HPB being newer?
Specs say the 281DPB had 500 cd/m2 brightness vs the 281HPB's 400 cd/m2. However the HPB model has 2 HDMI ports instead of 1 and also a 10 degree better vertical viewing angle. Response time, resolution, colors, contrast ratio all seem to be the same.
HOT! I have been waiting for this to go on sale, had no idea it would be so soon and right after Newegg dumped out the older model... I would return it to get this one just for the second HDMI input..... google the model number for the other differences.
Non-Members pay $12.50 surcharge. Still a hot price.
Edit: Here's a good read: Link Looks like this model fixes some issues with 1:1 pixel matching (read the link I don't really understand it).

Not sure! mine is still in transit. Can I refuse and turn away the shipment to avoid return shipping cost? I wonder how much will it be. For sure buying from costco is way better. Just in case if goes bad you can return to any costco location.

What are the costco refund details on computer monitors?

at this size & price, I'm guessing it has to be TN panel? Viewing angle specs seem to indicate so. Can anyone with this monitor comment on the color shift viewing this big TN screen? Viewing the edge pixels (as compared to the center) would be at a relatively large angle, something TN isn't the greatest at. I guess I could buy it and return to B&M but I'd just like to avoid the hassle if people's reviews confirm it.

Not if you bought it at Newegg. You are covered by the Monitor Limited Replacement Only 30-Day Return Policy. That's what happens when you buy the first deal you see - the Costco monitor is quite a bit better, but you are stuck with the old model.

Ya think??
If it wasn't a TN, you'd be paying at least 3 times the price.

Umm, you guys aren't getting the point here. You cannot refuse shipment nor return the monitor. Try reading the return policies before buying products. Newegg will only only allow returns for replacement for defects or massive amounts of dead pixels (and yes, they'll check it) - they also won't accept a return without an RMA. Buyer's remorse sucks, but you are stuck with it.
Heh, try adding it to your cart, and log in... then it disappears.
I guess I snoozed, I lost... Got the Newegg one, was going to get this too, and CL the one I didn't like... but its gone

I saw this on costco.com about a week ago for $300. Then it was removed from their website. It was back on the website briefly a few days ago and then removed again (I was going to buy it for $300). Then last night I happened to check and it was down to $250 so I purchased it immediately.
I would say to keep on checking because this item seems to come and go. I figure if it has dead pixels or was too big or glossy, I have 90 days to return it to costco. Newegg doesn't have such a good return policy.
Now they are offering a 28" screen withHD TV for $300 + tax, shipped. I think that is a better deal than this isn't it? Except that the screen resolution is a little smaller, it has the TV and a remote.

i'd say it probably depends on what you're looking for, a tv or a monitor? According to the HannsG and Hannspree website
HannsG monitor 3ms response time 15000:1 dynamic contrast 2w speakers
Hannspree HT09 3ms response time 3000:1 dynamic contrast 10w speakers
Hannspree ST281MKB 5ms response time 10000:1 dynamic contrast 10w speakers
seems the HannsG is a better monitor for watching movies on the computer and playing games, while the TV's have the advantage of the TV tuner, but one suffers from a lower contrast or suffers from a higher response time (only matters for fast-paced games, ie fps). Built in speakers are eh, either way, since you'll want to set it up to a better receiver or through your computer's sound card. the monitor does have the advantage of a tilting stand, while the tv's don't list (but i don't recall seeing a tv that actually does tilt only rotate side-to-side.
OK, to answer my own question, my local Costco (zip 75087) doesn't have it. The largest they had was a 25", and that came with a computer. But dang, that 25" was big; I can't imagine how huge a 28" is.

dimension is 25 3/4 Width and 20 3/4 Height with stand
just got mines today and it's bright like someone mentioned!! I'm running only with 30% brightness and still really bright..
another thing to note that it's pretty light in weight.. my 19in Cornea felt like weighted 50% more than this one..
well.. hopefully it will last.. liking it some far with 4 hours of use.
FYI the top of the monitor should line up with your eye level. ohterwise you will natualally slouch. sit up straight and put some yellowpage books under the monitor.
Just got mine. Plugged it into a Macbook Pro - nothing but a white screen. Plugged it into my netbook via VGA - nothing but a white screen. WTF? Anyone else get this thing to work?
This whole "expired deals" forum thing really blows. In the past, discussions would continue in the hot deals forum beyond the period where you could order an item. People shared information and these threads were great resources. Now they might as well be deleted. I'd prefer if they were just tagged as expired, and people got the option to either show or now show them in the hot deals forum.
Not to be negative, but I assume getting these out of the way for new threads that have the potential for purchases, which equals revenue for Fatwallet.com, is the reason for this. But I feel like it is at the expense of users. Just my point of view/opinion though...
