After reading the thread I could not find much that I didn't like. I have a Samsung LN52A650 with a 50000:1 dynamic contrast ratio (if my memory serves me right) and I NEVER set it to dynamic as it is really high to the point of hurting the eyes. I keep it on standard or Cinema most of the time. And I don't care about the ethernet port because the widgets are too restrictive for me. I am going to attach XBMC/htpc to this this anyways. So in my experience the contrast ratio should be good enough, now what I am not sure about is the price. Is this the best price we have see for a comparable TV or I am better off waiting for Bravia 3 engine TV prices to fall and then buy a 46" for the bedroom!

That is the law in California, Tax on pre-rebate price. Kind of weird, because its supposed to be like a coupon, which should be taken off before taxes. Anyway, it's been done like this at Costco for ages...and on many other items as well

It was the other rebates that were taxable. Perhaps it depends on who is issuing the rebate. (instant store rebate vs instant manufacturer rebate)

Mr. Terminator the Governor will try every which ways to tax you guys (until dead) !!!
In CA they charge tax on the pre-rebate price, including these "instant rebates" like the one in this deal. CA gets tax for everything, for example if you buy a smart phone with a 2 year contract, you pay the tax on the $500 retail price, not the $100 or whatever discounted price you actually pay when you buy the phone.

I've been monitoring Sony's since Thanksgiving and this is one of the better deals I've seen on 46" and 120Hz. I've been looking for 40" at $600 or less. Probably dreaming.
If I had the money, I'd be in on this.

In the costco review, the person complained about the remote not working too well. Is that true? I find that hard to believe for something as simple as the remote. Any first hand info?
any remote you buy should be covered in plastic from a zip lock bag due to grease getting into the board of the remote causing it to not work over time to protect your remote just use zip lock cut out the zip part and make the button side clear from the zip lock logo.

folks, LCD TV would be heavily reduced on price since LED is vely vely (I am not Indian) much going to replace these, although it is LED backlight one, not OLED.
MISURICK said: COSTCO model?! - so, no reviews for this particular one ! I think that's the case, hard to tell how it compares to the usual V5100, W5100, or even the VE5 model that WalMart had.

yes true washing hands helps but if you want that remote to last for the long haul zip lock does the job and protects from sweaty hands, dust, dirt, and other air born particles.
make sure Sony sells you another power supply with this LCD TV!!! We bought one and 1 1/2 yrs later it wouldn't even turn on due to power supply failure Not a happy camper nor will I buy another Sony Display.

Are you serious? Do you have vinyl cover on your sofa as well?

Phones are excluded from the blanket laws. They have their own laws. The law is actually worded that if the instant rebate is included with a phone bundle (phone + service) then the full price is taxable.
we live in CA and have family in NH, looking to buy a TV soon, if an online deal with free ship comes along would it be worth it for us to have it shipped to NH to avoid tax and recycle fee then pay to have them ship it over to us?
