Don't get me wrong because I do like Newegg, but this sale is really pretty weak by their standards and even weak by other etailer standards. I looked forward to their email this morning only to find this and was extremely dissapointed because I was hoping to save some money on a large order.
Seriously, is this a joke by Newegg or something? Using huge fonts and large images that say "MEGA BLOWOUT SALE" doesn't necessarily make it a good deal. We're a little smarter than that, Newegg.

For backup or as primary? There are frequently decent combo deals with a USB dock. If you backup a crapload (e.g., HD videos in raw format), getting one with a dock is a good investment.

Doing a search on FW for caviar black deals, I see 1TB OEM with dock for $85 (Newegg shell shocker so at most half a day long), 1TB retail for $90, 640GB OEM for $50. $65 for 750GB OEM isn't a bad deal at all. Only one better was the one with the dock which was only available briefly. Am I missing these other frequent deals? The caviar black is pretty much the best hard drive on the market right now.
I was going to get the WD 750GB HD and Corsair PSU as a Newegg combo deal ($10 savings) but as a combo deal the promo codes ($25 total) shown in the ad do not work. Any way to fix this?

$134.98 after coupon codes and mail in rebate, if you add them separately to your cart, or $149.98 after combo discount and mail in rebate, when add the combo deal to your cart, which does not allow you to add the coupon codes. I'm sure Newegg is not allowing the two coupon codes to stack with the $10 combo discount.
So it's $15 cheaper to not buy the combo deal, and instead buy the parts separately and then apply both promo codes.

The 640gb Caviar Black was back at Thanksgiving. If you aren't aware China's economy has started recovering fast enough that they are slamming on the credit brakes to avoid inflation. What that means is that suppliers are no longer going to have to cut prices to clear inventory. Germany and some other countries in the EU never fell as far. So demand is recovering in the rest of the world. Prices for DDR3 modules are already up 50% since the first of the year. I have done very nicely $50 AR on the OCZ Core V2 drives last summer, and $145 for the LSI 8408 so I didn't have stutter problems and got full raid performance. $189 on a 80 gb Intel X-18M drive $135, on the AMD940. $159 on the XFX 4890 AR, and $154 on the MSI 4890. $142 on the HIS 5770. $8 for the Belkin N PCMCIA card. $89 for the Seagate 1.5 tb drive and the Thermaltake USB/esata dock. You just have to pay attention, the good deals don't last long. The $65 for the 750gb is probably about as good as it is ever going to get again.

Paid exactly that for the black 750GB along with a Canon color printer ($40) from Egg few months ago(shell shocker). After BCB, it was around $60 for drive and printer. I dont see this price as anything special.
I agree with other posters that Egg used to be much better in prices. Since they are going public, they are now answerable to potential shareholders.

They have been going downhill for some time. They had a nice slice of the online market, but the company's investors probably decided that wasn't good enough. So now we get bombarded with ridiculous sales promotions, gimmicks and slick advertising. Just bring back the good prices, please, and stop telling me you've got a GREAT DEAL for me when you don't. Another bad sign for this company long-term is their attempt to branch out. I'm talking about their attempt to sell TVs and kitchen appliances (and a few other things they have no business selling). When the old CompUSA started doing that, the writing was on the wall.
The good news is their customer service is still not too bad. When that starts to take a dive you can be sure they're in trouble.
