In my neighborhood they would steal the camera unit..

in for 1

Almost tempted. I need around the clock coverage; especially at night. However, per the Amazon review the camera does not work at night. No, thanks.

Probably could get the range to 500 feet with a homemade parabolic reflector around the antenna

Cool product, but I have the same question as this commenter on Amaz0n:
"I have this set up as well, but can't figure out to record only motion activated video. Right now I have endless hours of black screen punctuated by 30second video when mption is detected, so my hard drive is filled with unneeded blank video. How do manage the video stream?"

Make sure you are careful where you mount this. It doesn't seem to have any encryption, and for $50 anyone can see what you're seeing. So if you are going to use it, I personally would keep it at the front door or other places that "don't matter."

This is great. The biggest problem with those Swan wired or wireless outdoor cameras is the power supply. Solar solves that problem. As for DVR, I grabbed a 4-channel video capture card off eBay for around $10 years ago. It's a cheap alternative to those more expensive DVR systems.

how does this work at night time when no solar. It says 24 hour protection, so does it have batteries. Also Someone mentioned encryption(does this s not have it).

Edit: i found on Amazon it has batteries that are charged during the day, and the unit will run all night on batteries. This is exactly what i was looking for. Got a crazy neighbor and I have to have a camera set up if she tries to sue us again for crazy shit. This is exactly what i need so I can have evidence in court if ever need be.

To everyone's questions about working at night, how about indoors or locations that have an overhang? Most security cam mounting locations like point of entry, front door etc... So how does it recharge the batteries on indoors or ambient light? This unit is beginning to sounds suspect of such claims of 24 hour. Does not appear to detach and relocate via wires.

I wonder if flood lights and/or porch lights would help the night time resolution.?

Thanks OP. I'll give it a shot. Wish I'd had it a few days ago when my house got broken into.

lol out of stock O.o

Note that this could simply be how it works. The camera could easily only be transmitting on motion change, to save power. But the receiving end could easily output blank video the whole time, and just put in the video when it's transmitting. That would be far more compatible than a system where there is sporadic output to a recording device, and the motion detection is no doubt about saving power more than anything else.

Someday, these things will have cheap flash storage so that it is really self contained. Maybe connects to a lappy or pc once a day or so do dump the day's activities.

Dead.
