Price is good. Add ati mobility for $50 and it is a pretty decent laptop. Add any cpu, hdd, ram and it kills the deal though lol deals like this make me wish i hadn't purchased a laptop years ago.

Picked one up for the parents, not a bad price for this at all. I do like how they are charging $40 more for the pink unit, yet only donating $5 of that

You guysrkiddin right? Dual core with webcam and 17" display for a hair over 4 hundo? Care to link a recent deal on a none refurb with same/better specs that falls even close? You doods have unrealistic expectations, especially for new members...
EDIT: also has HDMI out, Express Card slot, GigE, and four pin firewire (1394). For $400 + tax&shipping this is a smokin deal.

Backlit Keyboard is listed as an option, but seems to be no way to add it. Please report back when you get yours and let us know if you got the backlit included at the promo price.

Thank you very much OP. Exactly the laptop I have been waiting for, 9 cell battery was a very nice bonus. Upgraded to ATI HD3650 graphics and internal bluetooth. $498.29 Total minus 3% Bing Cash Back. Will swap out 4 gigs DDR2 ram and 500gb hard drive from older Toshiba laptop and eBay the Toshiba. I received order confirmation and it is the Studio 1737, no backlit keyboard on my order but showed a media card reader. Awesome deal at less than $500 for brand new 17" with these specs.

Great deal if it's the 1737... warm if it's the 1735 or 1745.

It comes with 2GB Ram.....Dell charges $80 for upgrade to 4GB....I ordered with the 2 GB. Anyone know where to get 2X2GB DDR2....800....for cheap price...@ B&M...
OR....maybe it won't need RAM upgrade....What do you think....?
MY use: stream movies from it in B/R to B/R HDTV....and some email and surfing....no heavy-duty programs....my desktops have the pleasure of that.
HA HA...it's like the 42" Sharp HDTV I bought from them a couple of weeks ago....paid $499 + tx.....now priced in upper 600's.....$900.00 MSRP.
Buying from Dell has to do with "timing"....and of course the help from the fatwalleteers.
I've stopped looking back @ current price of TV...all I know is price I paid was right and it's working GREAT!!!
btw...the Dell $400.00 lappy is replacing the 17" HP lappy I bought from Staples 2 days ago.....they have the best B&M return policy...that one cost @ $550.00(after rebate)....is full of bloatware....I'm still cleaning IT....IT'S BEING RETURNED FOR FULL CREDIT TODAY....Meanwhile. I think my PC addiction will survive until the red Dell gets here.... 3 lappys and 5 desktops still in my residence.
Ruby Red Paint, Studio 1737 so it is the 1737 but up $50 now

I bought the same machine back two weeks ago for $499, and it's working great. I tested to use AVC to convert vedios comparing to my desktop Q6600/1GB graphic card and it come only 10% slower.
the keyboard is no good, and the 17 in monitor price is decreasing and I don't really need another computer, unless it's Core 2 Duo.

I have a new 1737 ($449) and a new 1749 ($649 new i3CPU) in frond of me now. Though 1749 is little lighter and thiner and it has very good JBL speakers, I still like the 1737 better. The color of the LCD is more natual. Cpmpared rip video with 2 laptops and the 1749 finished 20% faster. Overall, I think $449 for a 1737 is a great deal and you can't go wrong.

Can't Find on de$$ website......closest and most similar configuration is an inspiron 17".
WORKS VERY NICE TOO!!!!!! I use it in bedroom......too heavy to schlep around. Great for steaming movies etc. from hulu, Netflix and other places to B/R 42 inch HDTV. Stream comes out as good as DVD quality on the TV.
