24x

Extra discounts (of $5 or $10) for using ebillme are available at ZZF's website. Don't forget your 2% Bing. The LG models come with cheap burning software (couldn't get it to even work on Win 7 64b). No mounting supplies or cables are included (all are OEM drives).

Good deal. From the title, I thought you had to buy 5 DVD burners for $100 to get the $20 price.

I would avoid the LiteOn iHAS124-04 Y.
Better off getting a Samsung.
It is not really a LiteOn but an NEC:

Model: iHAS124-04 Y
Chipset: NEC China MC-10045
Firmware: BL0W
Manufactured: in China

Updated firmware does not exist and is very picky with disks and Win 7.

The DVD burning experts would tell exactly the opposite. The NEC chipset is probably the best for 24X burners, and I am sure this chipset is the same one used in the very highly regarded Sony Nec Optiarc 7240S

100/5 = 20 or 1 for 20. That makes sense. I know the math

Jimbo, the link to the thread on digital-digest(great forum by the way)is mainly about bricking your drive trying to update firmware. How did you conclude this was not a good burner?

in one for samsung s223c..... Thanks op

Anybody have any thoughts on the Samsung S223C vs Samsung S223L? They both seem to have similar specs...

223L have light-scribe and 223C = 223L minus light-scribe.

Their external.....

Thanks, uglyrabbit.

I just updated the list; tomorrow is the last day for the liteon.

Why even post the 6 for $120 part. It doesnt make sense and is confusing. I would have put 6 burners at 20 ea

This is why (some Newegg reviews):

"Cons: Keep failing while reading DVD and when burning a batch out 4 DVD burn 1 failed in the second batch if burned 1 out 2, with another failed in the second batch. With my last DVD burner I was able to burn 10 DVDs back to back with no problem at all."

"Cons: This thing failes to burn all the disk i've burned so far. i had old samsung drive which was with me for over 6 years now and think it was it's life or my old PC but it was burning at 1x speed for everything. so i decided to get this one due to good reviews, but this thing sucks, only burned two DVD+RW in back up other than that it sucks. i tried to upgread the firmware, no model number on their website. i suppose i'll get samsung once again.

Fails on CD's burning is that when i burn like under 650MB worth of data(typically security back up videos) it burns 7%in first second and than slowly burns rest of data.

Will not let me burn 24x CD-RW at anyspeed but 16x, will not let me burn anyother dvd at lower speed and won't burn dvd ISO files at all askes me that i can only burn it on CDs eventhough they are 7GB+"

I experienced similar problems with various brands disks, turning out lots of coasters.
I bought 6 of them and they are all disapointing drives.
Used with Win7 64 bit and 32 bit. Upon failure to burn Win7 gives a message to update the drive's firmware.
BUT there is no firmware to update to for this specific drive anywhere.

I have used Samsungs and have never had this problem of SO MANY coasters.

That's why I recommended Samsungs, and they have easy to update firmware.
