You can put in 667 MHz ram without any issues (the original chip will then run at 667 also). I think the advantage of having 2GB total is much more than running all the memory at 800MHz.
Benchmarks would indicate that to be incorrect. The gpu will dual channel the ram at 800mhz and thats far, far better than having the extra gb of ram.
In fact, most users wont need the extra ram at all. On my XP load I've got 1.3GB free while watching a movie. On xbmc its even more than that. Most users will do fine with the base 1GB.

I agree, I'm running XBMC on linux and it's doing everything fine. But for people who are using this as a PC with XP the extra 1GB would help with everyday multi-use.

I think spending the extra money (couldn't find it for just +$4 shipped) is worth it, but some people on FW go for the cheapest. I've got two other friends running the revo, one did this (667+800) and he's had no issues running Boxee in Win7.
Then they list some compatible desktop motherboards. (server types ???)
Edit: I scrolled to the very bottom of the page and there are more specs. There they state non-ECC, so I guess this is OK for most laptops then. I would check to make sure you're getting the right product though.
The last time I checked, dual 667mhz is faster than a single 800mhz.
The memory is 64bit (8 bytes) wide, so at a single 800mhz mode, it has 6.4GB/sec of bandwidth at 677mhz, a single channel has 5.4GB/sec of bandwidth, in dual channel mode you double it to 10.8GB/sec
Ask your friends to see if they have unused 1GB DDR2 SODIMM memory they don't need. I have 4+ of these 1GB memory left over after upgrading a few standard/CULV notebooks from 2GB (1GB x2) to 3~4GB and 1GB netbooks to 2GB.
Remember that Microsoft does not Windows XP Home ULCPC Edition (Ultra Low Cost PC) or its more modern equivalent, Windows 7 Starter, be shipped with netbook/nettops that contain more than 1GB of RAM. As many of these netbooks have only 1 SODIMM slot, those who choose to upgrade to 2GB will end up with the original 1GB SODIMM unused.

That is, unless you actually NEED the extra GB of memory. If you exceed your physical memory and start paging, your system will slow to a crawl!
On my work computer, I use 2.2GB . I run a 2GB module and a 1GB module. Running 2GB of the fastest memory available is FAR slower than running 3GB of any memory I care to put into the computer.
