By default, it goes into a minimum power state and the disk stops rotating after five minutes of inactivity (e.g. it won't turn off if it's being used).

I read reviews saying it powers off while transferring large files. Is that true?

Priyran, trying to save you from the cranky people here...
1. Don't ask a question 6 minutes after you asked the same question previously and expect to get an answer 2. Go back and re-read the original post, and you will see two of the possible sources for the coupon (Hint: Eebay or e-junkie)

Repost hound posts are technically NOT of value to anyone.
==============
Changing topics to something a bit more constructive, this is an excellent deal - I've been monitoring eBay auctions and this is a cheaper price than most of the 400gb portable drives are going for, let alone the 500gb ones. Not to mention that most of the ones on eBay are refurbished and this is a new drive.
Hey lousygolfer, if you READ my post you'll see that I'm DEFENDING OP's post before someone comes along and claims that it's a repost (these repost hounds you speak of). I even said that I think it should be in it's own thread and thanked the OP.
Sheesh....

You need to buy the coupon code (~$2). The code can only be used once.
Senior members, The guy is asking a question- just give him the answer. While the description is clear, it is still a little confusing for people who are new to the forum.

Cheers.First of all, she's not a "he"; she's a "she". Next of all, should we "Senior members" give you a break as well for posting the same comment twice? for posting the same comment twice?

In 4 1 - total price $60.72 after tax and e-j coupon (found a $25 off $75 for $1) ...
With all the CPUs in this house, I can always use another portable file transfer platform.

Saw the deal on Fuzzy mellow's post (mentioned earlier), but didnt decide to pull the trigger till I saw this post. Fatwallet keeps dangling the bait, till you bite.
I just picked up the WD 750g essential at Costco for 99.00 too. Now to decide if I keep both (probably).

So, is this drive soldered to the housing? Has anyone checked to see if the drive inside has SATA interface?

Ama zon has it for $60 free shipping and for most no sales tax
This drive is very hard to dis-assemble and re-use. It uses glue and delicate plastic tabs to hold the drive in place. The plastic casing is very brittle.
The drive is NOT soldered to the SATA interface. It is just plugged to the sata chipset.
I wouldn't recommend this drive at all, as the failure rate is pretty high. Mine died in just 3 weeks after few hrs of use. Also, the warranty is only 2 yrs compared to 5 yrs for free agent.
Also freeagent go has metallic case I think.
The drive is 8MB, 5400rpm. I wouldn't buy this for using as internal drive either. I'd rather get the 16MB 7200rpm hitachi's for $10-15 more as the case/enclosure in this case is most certainly unusable.
