I do this already. But . . . I haven't been able to figure out the script for SORT BY LAST POST.

when I do a search on eBay, I can add a * to a word (example deal*) and all words that start with deal but may end with something else, including plural forms) come up..can you add this to search?I also agree with:
have 2 suggestions:

First, and its not a big deal, when I search I am searching for recent information. This is a deals site, and deals are time sensitive. Sort the results list by most recent posts first.

Second, and this one drive me NUTS: Allow and/or in searches. If I search for Home Depot, I get Dell Home, Office Depot, Pioneer Home Theatre, etc.

SOmetimes you NEED more than one word to better define/restrict your searches. My only way to search for Home Depot searches is to search for depot, then skim over the Office Depot posts.

PLEASE add 'AND' to your searches!

Thanks for asking our input!!

How about being able to search through the "stores" instead of just a list of stores, make it so we can search when under the "stores" heading, and get what stores had the item we wanted.

everyone said:Make date the default sort method.

Please do this, or at the very least make it like AT's board where you check the option to sort by date in the Advanced Search page and it remembers your choice from that point on.

Agreed on both counts!

Also, I would like to see wildcard searches allowed. If I'm searching for a hard drive, I would like to search for *GB in the title. Currently, typing GB into the search box returns only the titles where the capacity and unit are separate, i.e. 250 GB instead of 250GB.

1) change the way forum posts in the Hot Deals section are posted. this is how i see it:

- one text field for Message Title
- one text field for Most Direct Link (HTTP/HTTPS) To Item
- one text field for Link Description (put in default text, like "Link")
- also have a B&M only checkbox which will gray out the above two fields
- one big text field for Message Text

now each thread should be more closely aligned to the correct store

2) let people search by store, or "search query" + store(s). when i'm shopping, i prefer stores that are out of state 'cuz of sales tax.

3) also let people search by online, B&M, or both. i actually go in store to check around 4-6 B&M deals a year and have only been able to get in on 1, so i usually skip over B&M deals unless the price is really good.

4) let people save favorite searches. pretty much do what the topic alerts do but have a place where i can click on it to run the search instead of sending me the email when a new topic pops up. actually, having the topic alerts on a side bar would be nice. then make it like email where it has (1) or (some number) next to the search so i know new threads have popped up.

A way to save the search or give each search a unique URL. If I have more than one Firefox browser open and I do a search in window A and then a search for something else in window B, I noticed that when I go to reload window A, it just shows the most recent search (same as window B). I also started using the Session Saver extension in Firefox recently and noticed that if I close Firefox with a search results page open, it loads with the blank Advanced Search page when I restart Firefox rather than loading my search results from the previous session (so I forget what I was searching for).

oh, also forgot. having a NOT operator in searches would be nice. like "NOT AR" for deals not involving rebates. this could be a flag for people when creating posts, but it's almost always included in the title anyways.

That functionality is already there.

I agree with everyone that we should be able to sort the results by date. It would be nice to be able to sort by replies, views and category too, but I think these are less important than sorting by date. It would also be nice if there were an option to display the results in context with an expanded view showing the search word or phrase highlighted with a certain number of words or characters before and after the search word/phrase so if what we are looking for isn't necessarily reflected in the title, but it is in the body of the thread, we can easily identify this without reading through the whole thread. For example, when you are looking through a thread to see if anyone has posted coupon codes or discounts. An alternative would be to be able to search within a thread for a specific word or phrase; I do this now by using the "text only" view and find (ctrl+F) to find the words I am looking for, but it can get tedious with very long threads.

when i need to search something i dont want to see those 276 days old topic on top!

Ditto. Sorting by score is not useful to me.

No sure it has been mentioned before. Please include " into the search. Say search " 17" ".

alert mods

Please please please let us list the searches by date (newest first)! I don't like to look at deals 400+ days old (dead).

Edit - guess I'm not the only one with this idea.

Also, allow "-" - i.e. to get Digital camera but without any searches with the word Vivicam (so digital camera -vivicam)

Better yet--don't include results for which the key word doesn't appear until line 85. If I'm looking for a child's play gym, bachelor's degree on line should not be the first result.

I would also recommend incorporating a Google search into the site. Keep both. Google's search engine is naturally better at finding variations of what you are searching for, so this could up the relevant results. It also handles multiple search words better.

That being said, the search on here now works relatively well, and is perfect if I just want to search for a one word phrase such as vacuum, agp or simpsons. So, since both engines have their own positives, having both incorporated would provide the user with the greatest fexibility and usability.
