Bump. It's GREAT to see long-requested features such as the CODE tag ... and note that the Finance forum has already put that to very good use. Now, how about some action on search? Here's one example. Someone just posted a new thread on the State Farm card. Well, it just so happens that I posted some useful info on that card a few months ago. I'd like to (manually) add a link to that thread. The challenge: find my post. And, give that task to a few people who use FW but aren't expert at searching, and TAKE NOTES. Watch what they try to do. Ask them to talk out load, mentioning things they wish they could do. The goal: there should be more than one way to find the post. (And, not just the thread, but the actual post!) Related: I just used the thread search here on my handle: nothing. Apparently thread search only looks at text not the handle / username? Please fix. |

If you do a forum search, there's a box to search by username. The main search is a title search in the main forum listing, and a search of the post once you are in a thread. It's not easy to find a specific post by author if you are searching a huge thread though. |

Am I missing something? Is there no way to sort the search results by when the post was created? Or by the last post? |

Which search? The search in the top right can sort by "relevance" or "date" (date is default) The title search and forum search can be sorted by clicking the "originator" column heading on the results page. |

There's a choice of title or body, title only, body only. I suggest adding a choice of OP first post into the mix (& include Quick Summary in that choice). I also suggest this be converted to be checkboxes (like other sections in Search) instead of a dropdown (to make choices more obvious to those who don't look). Choices could be: Title Opening Post & Quick Summary Entire Message Body All of Above
There are likely many not familiar with Search Operators. Create an option of an Advanced Search similar to Google (must contain, not contain, all words, this phrase).
Now the biggest suggestion. An automatic 'intelligent' search on any OP post in FS & HD. On top of result would be "Please check the following to see if you might be reposting." This should be set to a high standard of match. Include in that a FW definition of a Repost (how old an OP date or last posting in thread date is not a repost). |

Nice that this didn't get archived. It's kind of fun to read through and see what suggestions were actually incorporated into the new search function. Suggestion (in addition to the feedbacks I sent you) -- put search instructions somewhere visible. Perhaps the Search button could take you to an instruction page, and you could set preferences to skip that page once you know what you're doing. |
