any plans on moving the existing ratings on the threads or are all threads going to start from 0?

alert mods

We found that negative voting was often abused and rarely contributed.

Are you kidding? Have you ever left the Hot Deal forum and gone into the Finance forum. Negging is used all the time to help people when bad info is posted like:

"you can't contribute to a 401k and Roth IRA in the same year"

That would be negged now, some poor Joe who reads that in a thread won't know what others opinions of that are without looking for a reply.

THIS WILL KILL THE USABILITY OF THE FINANCE FORUM!!!!

I just noticed that threads now have decimal point ratings. Example: 9.2364

Seriously, why not just keep the negative ratings and get rid of the whiners?

how long before they change it back? when everyone jumps over to other sites?

Changing sites is kind of harsh, we should at least try it.. or let them try to fix the situation.

Maybe it would working the future, but did you try it yet. I changed the filter to "good" and there are a few sticky threads and 1 other post, the OMAX official coupon thread.

Then they are fools. They jerked with the ratings before, and almost everyone hated it. The members obviously don't want this.

If a deal is bad, someone will reply with a link to a better one. Everyone should compare prices before buying anyway, that is Shopping 101! If a deal is a con, mods will be alerted, and someone will post that it's a scam. Now that everyone(supposedly) has voting power, which I interpret as the ability to increase the green bar, the bad deals will have little to no green, while even slightly good deals will have lots of green(depending on how the bar finally gets adjusted per vote, maybe a deal will need 2+ votes to show any green?). Going just by green/red votes to buy something isn't a smart policy imo. Use your own judgement a little and check froogle or pricewatch and a few online stores you think carry something-only takes a minute and you become more informed.

Some forums don't have boost...just as some forums didn't have ratings...I don't think you were paying attention...

So FW, can you reveal the secret-formula to ratings now so I can know why I never had voting power?

On second thought, I can see how being able to Red a thread, but not individual posts can be a good solution also to improve usability but not affect why this change was implemented.

At least keep the negative ratings for individual posts. There is too much bad information that is posted and then at least negged to let the others know to a) ignore it or b) research it for themselves. It's not limited to Finance either.

That's true.

The last time FW mods changed something on the website (recall: the new face on header), FW members complainted since there was not so easy anymore to switch between forums. In less than 24 hours, FW mods re-adjusted this header.
And now, this changes.

I know that I am not the owner of FW (I wish...) but we (as the members) have a very strong say on the future of FW.
The next time you have major changes, why not have a poll and let other FW members have a say.

This is NOT a good change! Please rethink this!

alert mods

Wait, so only certain people's votes count, but they all count the same, unlike in the past where some people had the power of +2? Am I understanding this correctly?

alert mods

I still have no clue how we can green a post.

Great Change FW --- I have been WAITING for this improvement for a long
time --- I get to render my opinion (right now) --- and I don't have to
worry about all the posters in this thread giving me red b/c they disagree
--- ha ha

Well, I swore I wasn't going to post anymore about anything on FW as I get deleted so much it becomes pointless, but instead I'd just lurk, but I have to say this or bust.

I think it would have been better if the threads themselves were left the old way with the ability to have reds and greens ( postive and negative votes) both, as it of course makes it so much easier to skip ( or filter out if you want )the reposts, dead offers, and scams.

HOWEVER, I could certainly live with removing the ability to neg regular posts ( not new threads themselves) as I think the posts added to a thread by others probably should have the voting red flag removed as mostly it's abused by people who take a dislike to a certain member or members and just neg red vote ALL their comments as a means to be nasty and annoy the poster.

Just my opinion, mind you. But no red voting on a thread itself just leaves people wasting way too much time weeding through caca to get to the new or verified good stuff.

Just my opinion, mind you.

There are a lot of reasons why post ratings are needed. There was already a long discussion about this the last time that FW removed post ratings. I guess they've decided to ignore everything we said.

alert mods

The filters suck now. I liked being able to view threads that only had a positive rating.

alert mods

Why do you have to post in order to see the "boost rating" button??
